Maybe you enabled the Mini Tree? It will not automatically show them by design.

Hi Don,

I know it's never ending, bothering issue, but:

When copying a larger number (in my case 280) of items, no more drag & drop and busy cursors are shown at all when XY is preparing the copy job, the actual copying apparently never gets done and XY seems to be stuck ("Keine Rückmeldung").
Going via copy & paste, at least, gets the job done, but again without any visual hints during workload.

I know it's bothering, but despite all principal flaws of the underlying protocol the visual clues really are needed.

I am still having trouble getting any portable devices to appear or disappear without doing Reset Tree each time. Even in a separate, fresh install of XYplorer with the default settings.

File Explorer is correctly showing the status of the portable device each time I connect or disconnect. So at least I know it is not a problem at the Windows 10 system level.

Weird. I'm not aware of such problems. Works fine here and no such complaints from others.

The automatic refresh will not happen while thumbnails are being created, while a directory is being listed, or while any mouse button is held down. Might one of these be the cause?

No, none of those things are the cause.

You can log the events that are causing an auto-refresh in XYplorer.

1. Switch on the logger and output to debuglog. Paste this into the address bar and press ENTER:

Code: Select all

::logchange 5;
2. Plug in your Portable Device.

3. Show the debuglog. Paste this into the address bar and press ENTER:

Code: Select all

::text get("debuglog");
I might be able to solve the mystery if I see the logged events...

Immediately after attaching the device (at 14:41) there is nothing about the device in the debug log. But a minute later, at 14:42, there appears something in the log. But still, no Nexus 4 visible in the tree. The lines about 'aspire' and 'TashA' are strange: those are the names of network computers which are currently switched off.

14:41:37.981 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_UPDATEDIR: C:\Users\TestUser\Desktop | Desktop > |
14:41:38.591 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_RMDIR: | VAIO - TashA > |
14:41:38.591 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_RMDIR: | TestUser (aspire) > |
14:42:41.135 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_RMDIR: | VAIO - TashA > |
14:42:41.136 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_RMDIR: | TestUser (aspire) > |
14:42:41.140 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_RENAMEFOLDER: | Nexus 4 > | Nexus 4
14:42:41.141 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_UPDATEITEM: | Nexus 4 > |

Also I notice if I try to restart XYplorer while the device is plugged in, XYplorer just crashes each time. I have to disconnect it if I want to start XYplorer.

That looks very different from what I get on Win8.1. But I'm not surprised. Windows notifications are a notorious chaos ever since and they change from version to version in ways nobody can understand.

Could you please do it again (because it might be different the next time) and send the log for a) plug in, and b) plug out. Thanks!

The (very!) good news is: I could reproduce the crash on startup with my Nexus 10 plugged in! :D That means I can fix it (and probably also similar crashes that have been reported for other sorts of devices)! :cup:

No extra lines are created in debug log when the Android device is disconnected.

And when I connect and disconnect an iPhone, there is nothing for the connection or disconnection in the debug log.

Weird. In that case XYplorer has no chance since it is simply not informed by Windows. :(

> Reset Tree

Plug out

19:24:20.426 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_UPDATEDIR: C:\Users\xxxxxx\Desktop | Desktop > |
19:26:08.128 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_UPDATEDIR: C:\Users\xxxxxx\Desktop | Desktop > |

> XY restarted

Whole cycle
19:27:30.789 >> ShellNotify: SHCNE_UPDATEDIR: C:\Users\xxxxxx\Desktop | Desktop > |

Filehero, but are you seeing portable devices appear and disappear correctly in the XYplorer tree on Windows 10? Because if not I wonder why you have not mentioned this already in the previous months. Since 1 June when I told of this problem with portable devices in Windows 10, no other person has mentioned anything about it here in the forum.

I would suspect that he did NOT see portable devices appear and disappear.

If that's true then, based on your logs, I think I could fix it. It should work in next version. :cup:

Remains that crash bug -- it's really stubborn this one. Still hunting...
