Thanks, I'll try them both out.
Actually: .rtf, .docx and .doc take almost 10 seconds to preview, which is very slow.
.xls and .pdfs are very fast.
Maybe this is because my copy of Word is bogged down with various plugins and addons. When I double-click on a .docx file in the explorer to open it, it also takes ages to open (and I see: Loading Add-Ins 3 of 7, Loading Add-Ins 4 of 7, etc. Not great, and I'm looking into it.

Hmm, OK, so I installed the trial of QVP, but have no idea how to make it preview anything from inside XYplorer.

Hm, when I tried it about a year ago it just worked. Try to untick DOC in Previewed Formats.

Tried that, but I still don’t really know how to make the program preview anything inside XYplorer. What I mean is:
so I am in a tab in XYplorer, and I click on e.g. a .doc file, then what? Should I right-click and look for some kind of QVP command? I looked through my entire right-click menu and there is nothing there related to QVP.
I read online about a Quick View Plus entry in the context menu. However, I see no such thing in either Windows Explorer or XYplorer.
By the way, I installed the 32-bit version. I assume this is because XYplorer is a 32-bit program, right? However, I noticed that my Windows Explorer is 64-bit. Hmm. I'm slightly puzzled.

Yes, the 32-bit version is the right one.
The preview should appear in the preview tab when you select the file.

Aha! I had ‘Show the 64-bit context menu’ switched ON under: Tools > Configuration > Other > Shell integration. I unchecked it and now the QVP context menu items are appearing...
So I can now right-click on a file, click Quick View Plus, and this will launch a QVP window, with a preview of the file.
However, although it worked a few times, I am now getting only error messages such as:
‘Error: View window could not open the file. Another application may be using this file.’ every time I try and preview a file (no matter what kind). I'll play around with it a bit and see if I can get it to work!

Any updates on when the info panel will be movable? I would also like to see it on the right side rather than the bottom. This minor feature is what is holding me back from buying the full version.
It would also be nice if the info panel could pop out to show previews (so I can put it on my second monitor)

Welcome to the club!
Re movable InfoPane: AFAIK, that's not one of Don's (the developer) top priorities at the moment.

Might the "Floating Preview" suffice? (It's under "File" in the main menu)

The floating preview would be nice but as soon as I click it, the video stops playing in the info panel and the floating preview only shows the enlarged thumbnail version of the video. Is it supposed to play video in the floating preview?
With info panel minimized - the floating preview still only shows a thumbnail rather than playing the video.

Ah, no the floating preview doesn't play audio/video.

Both of these would be great features to add! Who doesn't like more customization?
1. Movable info panel
2. Playable videos in the floating preview
to add: It would be great if all of the panes and toolbars were movable. Why not beef up the arrangement/window menu?

For the whole info panel to be (optionally) floating, that would be great!
