Hello,

Is there any hope to get XYplorer to handle comments in decript.ion format, which is used by many common apps as e.g Total Commander, ReGet Delux etc?

Well, I suppose, that XYplorer main comments format tag.dat is actually better, than decript.ion (the more so in the future perspective), but for me (and surely for many other users as well) it is not a power question, but a problem of compatibility.

Starting from XY version 8.00 I've been consider to move from TC to XYplorer as a main file manager. And the the only issue, which does not allow me do it, is comments format. I've used Total Commander for years and have thousands (yes!) important remarks for my files, not only some songs etc, but mainly my work official documents (time of sending, cusomers and the boss' remarks and so on). So it is not a question of my personal choice: I simply can not loose these comments.

Actually I have considered to write an auto-converter from descript.ion to tag.dat but I was not able to find a description of descript.ion. Do you have a link?

Here is the specification of descript.ion format: http://jpsoft.com/ascii/descfile.txt
Although the format itself is quite simple, you might find usefull the following detailed instructions as well:
http://www.leeholmes.com/blog/AddFileDe ... Monad.aspx
http://drupal.org/node/289988
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1810 ... -file-spec

NB!
Please consider, that since Total Commander 7.50 it uses extended descript.ion format with max. length of 4095 characters (instead of 1024) and supports line breaks:
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=108562
http://www.ghisler.com/whatsnew.htm

But actually converter would not a good solution for me (and other users, might wish to use XY with TC at the same time) :( Even if I move to XY as my main file manager, I'll probably use TC as well for some types of operations (just as I use now XY for some types of operations although TC is currently my main file manager): TC has very many useful plugins to view files which XY can not do. So it will not be convenient, if I'll be not able to handle my new comments in TC. That's why my dream is TC and XY comments formats mutual compatibility rather than one-way convertor.

Found this link also http://www.leeholmes.com/blog/AddFileDe ... Monad.aspx that says filename may be quoted...another site agreed on quotes as filenames may have spaces so that can't delimit it anymore.

Oh please, please, do so! I see various people have already sent you the links for the file, so I just want to add my voice to those who would like this feature.
Best regards Emil

OK, I have put it on my list (both, live usage and one-time converter).

Any idea how far down the road is this? The converter would be enough for me, now that I got used to using the comment field instead. But there are those older files... :?

Well, pity but no disaster. Thanks very much for the quick response, anyway. This is the best board I have ever been on! :D
