Yeah, like I said one has to play around a bit to get what you need. Anyway, for the fun of it I made a youtube video in the default XY to show how its done.

Nice. I'll have to learn to make a YouTube video. I think what you've shown is confusion over which pane is in focus and thus what would be closed by Alt-click is easily solved with colors.
