You realize the only single difference is that I use all the space available in the QFV window, instead of just half of it, and nothing else?
Perhaps it'd be easier to read with an extra space or two after the first 16:

Code: Select all

00000000: 52 49 46 46 1C 6D E1 2B 41 56 49 20 4C 49 53 54 72 22 00 00 68 64 72 6C 61 76 69 68 38 00 00 00 RIFF.má+AVI LIST "..hdrlavih8...
00000020: EC A2 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 01 00 00 7A F2 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ì¢.............. zò..............
The only problem might be on the right side if the space between the two gets confused with a space character...

Just a thought...

Okay, maybe some little tweaking needed in the Hex view itself, that's a good idea, but you absolutely do not wanna add spaces on the right side, aka the content itself, that is just wrong.

Code: Select all

00000000: 52 49 46 46 1C 6D E1 2B 41 56 49 20 4C 49 53 54 72 22 00 00 68 64 72 6C 61 76 69 68 38 00 00 00 RIFF.má+AVI LISTr"..hdrlavih8...
00000020: EC A2 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 01 00 00 7A F2 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ì¢..............zò..............

Sorry: it's not wrong - it just can be read wrong. (As long as the splitting blanc-column isn't well recognized.) On the other hand it *can* help as an optical divider to count characters. (Imagine in the 34th row you are looking for the 21st character...)
But if that divider space would be a bit shaded, you would notice that it's not text but divider.

Could a special char be used as a divider? Something that gets filtered out from the char display but which could be used in this case? I'm thinking along the lines of a graphic block or similar...

Also, is the wraparound to line 2 of the hex intended or just a result of screen width/etc?

hmm... there shouldn't be no wraparound. The whole idea behind this was to have the Hex view use the full space/width of the QFV window, and not a predetermined size regardless of the window's size. Just to be sure, because if your screen isn't "large enough" you might obviously get an odd-looking/inadequate idea, here's what it should look like/looks for me:
