After getting the thumbnails view working, with the help of Jupe,
it's now funny to scroll through a list of epub thumbnails
Hovering over the thumbnails shows the enlarged view of it.

Btw. my previous setting of PreviewEarlyFactory was 3.
The new value of 0 fixed a lot of errors trying to get thumbnails in a large dir,
with a lot of different file formats, used for testing-

By the way, PreviewEarlyFactory=0 is the default setting since 2022-11-05.

May be, but I never touched it.
It don't make sense to find the point in history for my settings
