Come on...let's reserve TB functions for better things! :P
Or do some users go to "My Computer" that often? :?
I think it wouldn't be problematic because nobody is forced to use the new button. If one is satisfied with the old "Drives" button, everything will be the same as before, if she/he prefers the modified one, there also will be only one button on the TB. So no space is wasted.

I like both solutions
- "Drives" button with additional "MyComputer" as INI tweak
- original "Drives" button and new "MyComputer" button
Both will please all groups of users (the traditionalists and the modernists  ) However, the second one means more work for Don (he has to design a new toolbar icon).

This wish wasn't worth a page of posts and it certainly isn't worth two, so I'm done with it. I'll be fine with whatever decision you make, even if it is to revert it back.
Yes, but that's what I like about Don/XY. Don never goes the easy way but tries to find a compromise which is okay for all the different groups of users. It may seem like too much discussion for such a small thing but in the end the best solution will be found. As always...

You see, Qwerty, you are not alone. :)

j_c_hallgren wrote::roll: I was just thinking....So now...let me get this correctly...we are doing all this effort just to avoid one click and a tiny bit of mouse movement? Or what...??
Because...aren't most of these options available via Favorites on MenuBar?
I can click/tap on it, move down and thru 'Special System Folders' and get to My Comp, Desktop, My Docs, etc...so exactly how much effort does this take that having it on a TB icon would relieve?
After all, the menubar items are always there for all users, and don't take any more room on TB...
Yeah, let's remove all those useless buttons that only do what can be easily done on menus, like Go Back, Go Forward, Go Up, Hotlist, Show Panel, Show Catalog, Cut, Copy, Paste, Move To, Copy To, Backup To, Configuration, Calculate Folder Sizes, ... :P ;)

Yeah, revolution! Now we really go the ZEN way (less is more)...

(1) I would not call it compromise at all. I always try to find the solution that I like best, and I exploit the ideas from you folks just to that end.

(2) The discussion that finally (?) lead to a new "MyComputer" TB button directed my thoughts into an interesting new pathway... that might finally lead to User-Defined Toolbar Buttons! (UDB, baby!) So it was not in vain at all... :D

 I was mentioning it only due to what I perceived as possible frequency of usage and amount of time spent talking about it. Those functions that jacky listed are likely used hundreds or thousands of times more than one would strictly use a "My Computer" reference, IMHO.

YEA, baby! :D But would it be UTB or UDTB or UDB?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Since TB stands for "toolbar" (at least for me) I think UDB is best: User-Defined Buttons. Should be clear that those buttons are on the toolbar.

Oh, Don, no! All my illusions are destroyed now. Such an egoistic character...

Wow, that would be really awesome. :P So the whole thing was worth the discussion.

Yeah, so I'd like to thank TheQwerty for directing Don's thoughts the right way. And I'm sure every "mouse-oriented user" out there will do join me on this. :D

When I first thought of this I think I called it Custom TB Buttons, probably because it was linked to Custom KS, since in my mind those new buttons could be made for about any feature in XY (inc. UDC, so scripts as well!), just like with KS.
Since UDB and UDC are close, maybe CTB (Custom Toolbar Buttons) might be better... ? It's somewhat closer to CKS which I feel makes sense, yet not as close as UDB & UDC are (which are two very different things, unlike CKS & CTB would be)

Yes, I can follow you here. CTB is fine.

A CTB would have the following user-defined props:
- Name (used as button tooltip, and in the Customize Toolbar dialog)
- Action (a script)
- Icon source (a file that contains an icon; ICO, EXE ...).

 I was halfway there...just needed Custom vs User (UTB=>CTB)...sounds good! Jacky's reasoning is more complete but we had same basic thoughts.
Question: Would the tooltip and name for dialog have to be identical? Just wondering...as name is often slightly less wordy than tooltip.

Okay, right. So we have

- Name (used in the Customize Toolbar dialog)
- Tooltip
- Action (a script)
- Icon source (a file that contains an icon; ICO, EXE ...).

Some more random thoughts about this concept...
1) Would there be any ability to define some actions for left-click and others for right-click? Or will it be limited to just one action?

2) Icons: Some applications I've seen provide a handful of generic icons that can be used for this type of purpose...something like a "U1", "U2", etc. would/could be also supplied if user just wanted to have a non-pictorial non-specific icon.

3) If there are more than one action, would there be ability to define separators as we do on TB? Because, I could see a user simply wanting to combine some plain/existing commands on a TB icon, instead of having them on separate icons...in other words, just pulling some numbers out of the air, if I wanted #234, #345, #456 on one icon with separators between each, how would that be done?
This could provide a mechanism to access cmds via mouse/pad easier than via sub-menus and also without having to use a CKS to do so.

You know, there's a lot to do before I will have time for this. Better we postpone the detailed discussion...
