Somebody has removed the last trace of XYplorer from wikipedia, where it was listed as a portable file manager here:

I'm sure you know that XYplorer/TrackerV3 was "portable" even before the word existed, that XY is tagged "The Portable File Manager" since long, and well... google for: portable file manager.

What is this? A crusade? Against me, or against wikipedia?? Because wikipedia is really starting to look a bit funny, don't you think so? Look at the file managers listed here:

This is not funny. Being off wikipedia nowadays is like being outlawed. Worse: It's cyberdeath!

It's crap like this that's the reason I avoid Wikipedia as much as I can. There are some topics that I feel are ok to use Wikipedia as a source of information (but not the ONLY source), but anytime there is a topic where a person's personal feelings/bias can influence what is presented to the internet public then I avoid it. Peoples' personal vendettas can too easily influence what others may take as truth or fact.

I know this doesn't help your situation...I just felt the need to tell you all how evil I think Wikipedia is/can be.

Man, that sucks big time. I already wrote a very angry mail last time amd they said they would resolve it. Well, I will try writing to them again.

The unfair situation is that writing a good wiki article on XY will take an hour but removing it takes just a click. Not very motivating. And discussing with "them" is fruitless as has been shown before. The software pages in WP are a joke, probably because they are the rotten fruit of fan vendettas.

I would not care a second if I wouldn't see what it did to my sales statistics. You can really point your finger to the week where I was dropped from WP. "Drop" is the word...

I only just now found out that the TrackerV3/XYplorer articles had been purged from Wikipedia, which is ironic, because I'm the one who first put them there way back when.

Actually, there's a very good reason why I wasn't aware. I've been down this road before with Wikipedia. I have not made many edits to Wikipedia, but the last time I did, another user (whom I now have an extremely low opinion of) deleted my edit, and then went on a targeted crusade to remove all references to the software I had added a link to. This confused me, because at the time, all I had done was add a single link to a list already containing many other links. Yet somehow, it was deemed appropriate to delete just my new link, and leave the slew of others intact.

I purposely avoided Wikipedia after that event. For a time, I even blocked it at the router level! (Thanks to OpenDNS, anyone who wishes can go even farther than that...)

I have no idea what "notable" means, nor who gets to decide that, nor why such fiat serves as basis for removing long-present articles. Do note that when they can't get away with totally removing something from their fake online encyclopedia, they'll castrate whatever is left. For example, if there is a feature comparison grid for a certain software genre, they will give the software title they frown upon a row of nothing but ?, rather than green Yes indicators.

Based on this experience and my last, I believe there are ulterior monetary motives involved, coupled with the petty little egos of chair-detained imbeciles who enjoy what they perceive as a power trip. Sort of an online version of Canada/USA border agents, but without the immediately-obvious bad breath.

I remember when I first learned about Wikipedia years ago. The person who told me about it said "You have to admit, it's a great idea". I thought to myself "Hell no, it's not, it's a recipe for illegitimacy and a total lack of reliability!"

It's so nice being right.

It's interesting to note though that under Comparison of file managers, there's an image of XYplorer in the examples gallery.

Yep, the last remnant the cleaners have overlooked in their frenzy. I've been reduced to a fossile squeezed between the sediments of a picture gallery. Maybe future digital archeologists will dig it out and reconstruct a file manager from it.

I've just added this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk: ... _last_July to the 'user talk' page of a WP user who was somewhat helpful back last July when "we" were deleted as I discussed with him in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk: ... er_here...

Some of the other ID's that were involved in the removal don't appear to be as currently active as this one, so figured I'd start there.

Let's see if the print/podcast publication helps!

Wikipedia seems to be out of control and why XY is targetted is a real mystery.

In THE Register a search on wikipedia reveals a lot of unrest and foul play so XY is not singled out. For some reason XY has been targeted and the root cause is what we need to discover. Personality clash, product favours, vendetta - very strange.

Maybe we can all find other ways to subtly advertise XY. I am now a user of The Bat email client and this is definitely targeted at power techie users and they claim a very big user base world wide. Recently I dropped the XY wiki in the TBBeta forum as an example of good practice. If only we could get XY mentioned ion this group sales would take off as XY is exactly the stuff these guys thrive on.

Forget wikipedia - it attracts the wrong market segment for products as good as XY.
