OK, that's not possible. Like all other settings it will remember its last state across sessions.

If you disabled Save on Exit then: Simply save your settings with Links expanded and you're done.

OK thanks Don, no problem. I changed the AutoOptimizeTreeRadical to "0" and the behavior was the same. As you said, I'll simply save settings with Links expanded if I want to open it that way. How about Recent Folders, anyway to hide/disable that link? XY won't let me delete it or rename it.

Followup to Recent Folders comment above...I was able to delete the Recent Folders link by deleting it in Widows Explorer. So I'm all set.

Well I thought I was all set, but hopefully one last question on the Links topic. When you create a link shortcut to an exec file is the program run for you when you click on the link (e.g., set a link to Notepad, "C:\Windows\notepad.exe")? I made links to 4 different exe files and when I click on the link, they are all treated like "Open location" instead of "Open". The exec file like Notepad is highlighted in the C:\Windows folder instead of being ran. The same link(s) in Windows Explorer are ran as they should instead of the location opened.

Explorer opens all files here. But I did not like that. In case of pics e.g. I rather want to jump to the pic. But in case of executables I think running them is the right thing to do. Gonna make this happen...

I hadn't tried a picture as a link. The jury is out on that one, but in this case you're the judge. I'm fine with jumping to location for pics. More than likely the user is going to be in a thumbnail view for that folder anyway and can then use MDBU or open the image. Thanks.

Hi Don, with version 16.40.0005, I like the fact that that not only can you run an executable from links, but also the fact that the Links node stays open/expanded after running the exec unlike when opening a folder link.

Note that the latter is still unexplained, and (apparently) no other user sees this behavior. AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1 was my only idea, but you said it did not help to set i to zero. Please try a fresh instance and you will see a different behavior...

Hey you're right, in fresh XY instance Links are staying open or expanded when I click a folder link. So what's the best way to track down why that is...some setting that would be different in "fresh" versus my normal configuration? I saved my fresh ini and I suppose I can start compare it to my normal one.

Update: I tracked it down to AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1. It was the problem after all. In the previous beta(s) it didn't make any difference, but in the latest v16.40.0005 it certainly does. I know I properly saved the tweak change previously since I had checked it afterwards, but I had changed it back to '1' later. Anyway, my links are now staying open even when opening folders. The normal Configuration Auto-optimize tree is still checked. Cool and thanks Don for the reminder to recheck.

Only Optimize Tree (Radical) comes to my mind. Nothing else auto-closes tree nodes.

Aaaah, the kind of relief when logic after all prevails. Doesn't happen all the time...

Links and tweak AutoOptimizeTreeRadical=1 are now playing nicely together in v16.40.0006. Thanks Don.
