New version is out!
Code: Select all
Rev. 10.69 / 2016/06/19
* Added compatibility with the brand new https version of
xyplorer.com .
Question for the Win10 crowd out there: can you confirm that this script works on that OS too?

I'm seeing some errors under XP -- invalid date "" is reported on line 52, if that's any help. But Win10 and Win7 x64 both seem to work as they should.
I'd thought it was just the beta channel that was failing but (having successfully downgraded .306 to .300 on the XP box without really intending to!) it's now both. Although I might have induced a problem with the downgrade, I guess...

Hi everybody; just wanted to say thank you for this script and the how to install explanations.
Excellent work.

I just tried this. But I put the script in "<scripts>\SimpleUpdater" so I could keep it and the docs together by themselves (my usual practice). The result was that on the first run, it deleted itself.
I worked on that for some time before realizing that this name is also used for a temporary working folder...
So I suggest using something more arcane for the temp folder, that's all. With that resolved, the script has worked great for one update on Win10 x64.
Amazing work! Thanks.

Wow, I never considered that
Do you have any suggestion? Would a subfolder ".TEMP" in the same folder where the script is located work for everybody? Also keep in mind that the temporary folder can be changed by changing the variable $temporary_path.

Well, I think any name other than "SimpleUpdater" would be fine for the temp folder, and would not cause a problem since it is internal to SU's operation and gets deleted anyway.

Hi,
When a new non-beta version is released, XY askes me in a build-in pop-up, if I want to update. If I do, then the script does not recognize the updated XY and still prompts me to update to that very same version that I am already on. Ideas? Fixes? Thx.

Hi again,
also the installation with the ::snippet command does not work anymore.
running win10 and the latest xy version
EDIT:
something seems broken on my laptop anyway.
the same user su-button which works on my desktop win 8.1, does not work on lappi with win 10:
on the lappi left-clicking the button results in a submenu showing also the _initialize and _terminate scripts
ideas anyone?? many thx in advance.
btw, pasting snippet to button also works fine on dt with win 8.1

Having an idea for making SimpleUpdater even better:
If there is no new version, SimpleUpdater should still ask if the (latest) change log history should be displayed (same as now when there *is* a new version), so that I can use it as a "quick help" for the very latest newest features and changes. If this is the case, then that window would close without querying anything else.
ofc, it would be awesome if it could be modeless, don't know if it is possible.
Is that a good idea?
[EDIT: Never mind. I added a link to a toolbar button:
Code: Select all
run "https://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4&sd=d";
It shows the release logs on the XY website in the browser and sorts them according to date in DEscending order, making the last post appear on the first page, so the view is always up to date.]

just a note while exploring - 1st page gives only a really vague idea about what this script might be good for.
yo, phrases like 'Marco's XYplorer Updater' within the floating text give a hint, but there is no short description, features though..simply said
