Wildcards are just a secondary usage. The main functionality is the single file search, hence the name.

If I do file-deletion via Shift+Del (or Shift + Delete from context menu), then I get a message from Windows.
In a case when deletion produces XYcopy, a message from Windows can be hidden and be not visible under a layer of open applications.
In that case I can see only a message from XY in status bar: job # < # > added
However I got used to see message from Windows, but it is hidden.
I try to stop a task - I have no opportunity.
I close XYplorer - I do not see any reports of pending jobs.

I think that for such case, you need to do something about it. Isn't it?

However, you can make hint in window of Background Jobs for such pending jobs.
Hint, that says me - you must search a message box of Windows
There you can cancel a job that is hanging because it requires confirmation in a message box of Windows.

Hmm, at the moment I cannot reproduce the issue at all. (win 8.1). Can you reproduce it always?

Not always, but oft.
If XY works long enough (and I often use a combination of Alt + Tab to switch applications) it is sure to happen.
responsible for it is probably the operating system.
