Hi’
Taking my chances again, especially since you’re changing safety belts…
I use Paper Folders all the time really (for searches), and I always face its —for me— unexpected and bothersome deletion behavior.
• Details:
› DEL: Remove item from PF with dialog
✔
› Shift + DEL: idem? - Remove item from PF with dialog
✖ Someone using this KS expects it to be "brutal" (since it’s usually for "No recycle")
› Ctrl + DEL: Delete unlocked item with prompt
✔/✖ Looks like the behavior of the Nuke with "skipping locked files", except that it’s doesn’t use Nuke settings?
› Nuke button with "Skipping locked OFF" + "Confirm ON": Remove item from PF with dialog
✖ We’re talking about a "Nuke" here… So deletion is surely expected
› Nuke button with "Skipping locked OFF" + "Confirm OFF": idem? - Remove item from PF with dialog
✖ Even weirder… still no deletion but still a confirmation?
› Nuke button with "Skipping locked ON" + "Confirm OFF": Delete item without dialog
✔
› Nuke button with "Skipping locked ON" + "Confirm ON": idem? - Delete item without dialog
✖ Wooops… I personally don’t mind, but bad surprise for those expecting the confirmation prompt
———————————————————————————
IMHO, If I may be so bold, here’s what I think would probably be expected:
› DEL: Remove item from PF - dialog always [default]
› Shift + DEL: Delete item - dialog if user setting "Confirm Delete" ON
› Ctrl + DEL: Nuke behavior (based on Nuke settings), why not, since it is what it kind of looks like already
And Nuke should behave exactly as usual:
"Skipping locked" only having its expected effect about locked files
Deletion confirmation only being based on its own setting
› Nuke + "Confirm ON": Delete item with dialog
› Nuke + "Confirm OFF": Delete item without dialog
———————————————————————————
Well, I hope it makes sense… Especially the "Shift+DEL" and the Nuke behavior; personally I just discovered a few weeks ago that Nuke worked if "Skipping locked" was ON (I have it OFF 99% of the time).
Thanks for your attention,
Flux

Re: Paper Folders
Thanks, makes sense.
1) I changed the effect of Shift + DEL in a PF: now it deletes the file (permanently).
2) I changed the effect of the Nuke button ina PF: now it deletes the file from the system, not (just) from the PF.
How did you enter those Tick symbols???

Hi’
Precious gain of time (at least for me), thanks!
Have a nice day,

⏵ But in truth (long story short):
→ I don’t copy/paste them of course. Having to write in different languages (and pay attention to typography), I had to switch between keyboard layouts often. Probably good for touch-typing muscle-memory but really tedious.
→ So I finally crafted my own keyboard layout to get the most efficient disposition: kind of a very distant relative of Dvorak/Colemak on steroids, focused on bi⁺lingual + coding + typography; and with regular KS!
› Note to whom it might interest: locally I went with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (MSKLC), and for portability with Portable Keyboard Layout (PKL) (plus a small custom Autohotkey script for advanced features in both cases).
→ I couldn’t resist giving access (via quick KS or deadkeys) to lots of symbols—“Non breaking space” by itself being not only typographically necessary but also generally invaluable!
→ Well, my fingers had to re-learn an entirely different disposition, but it was really worth it!
⇒ Be it for coding, writing casually or ‘properly’, it feels soooo much better now, fingers flowing, everything seemlessly glued together…
☺

⏵ TLDR; I originally gathered my (huge list of) symbols here:admin wrote:How did you enter those Tick symbols???

Re: Paper Folders
Care to share it? I'm still waiting for my keyboardio (though it seems I will get it this year *cheer*) and I thought I'd switch to Colemak once I get it but regular keyboard shortcuts sounds very nice→ So I finally crafted my own keyboard layout to get the most efficient disposition: kind of a very distant relative of Dvorak/Colemak on steroids, focused on bi⁺lingual + coding + typography; and with regular KS!

Wow, looks like a nice’n sturdy beast!admin wrote:I'm still waiting for my keyboardio (though it seems I will get it this year *cheer*)
You’ll have to post some feedback about it…
Well, the lack of regular KS in alternate keyboard layouts is obviously understandable, but it’s not viable IMHO, and it’s a major pitfall that further hinders any incentive to adopt such layouts. Besides, the argument “It’s the softs which need to adapt: just change their KS” is wishful thinking (and shortsightedness): it’s fine… only as long as you stick to a couple of office apps.highend wrote:I thought I'd switch to Colemak once I get it but regular keyboard shortcuts sounds very nice
Sure. Too specific to post it here though (check your PM).highend wrote:Care to share it?
Last OT note: Whatever the keyboard layout, remapping CapsLock as a modifier (through AutoHotkey mini-script) is a killer feature per se (getting access e.g. to arrows, Ctrl/Shift/Esc/Backspace… without having to move your hands — [oh, Shift+Space as non-breaking space too, since MSKLC doesn’t accept it.].)
Well, on this note, I’ll stop disrupting this thread and let it get back to its own papers…
Have a nice day,
