You can do that, but (as you noted) real one-click synching is not yet a feature here. It is on my list (for a long time now... ).

So syncing identical folders and drives can be done, but it will take more steps to achieve that.

Also, scheduling for backup can be done.

I'll go spend some time to try out the Backup features to familiarise myself with the operation.

Thanks!!

I like to highlight to XYplorer that the following is true for me.
I'm using XP Pro.

1. When I do a series of Copy and then Paste (Moved), the Modified date are not kept, except the Creation date.
This is after I've Configured the Custom Copy to "keep all dates".

PS: Too late, I've done the move and when I tried to Undo, it shows the new Modified date, which is today.
I'm so peeved, because I wanted to keep the Modified date too. Is there any way to Undo the operation which I do not know of?

2. After I've Copied a huge folder from Drive I to Drive H, I tried to get the Report, but it shows me this:
Run-time error "14"
Out of string space

Here's the screenshot:

Image

3. On collision when I do a Copy, it does not retain the "keep all dates", but all the dates (Modified date, Creation date) are current date.
My Version of XYplorer is 11.90.0100 and I'm not entitled to upgrades. It's a fixed pro licence. How do I get this bug resolved in my current version please?

1. Works perfectly here. However, there has been a rare bug with folder dates that has been fixed recently.

2. Out of string space! Wow, a rare error. How many files did you copy?

3. Again, works perfectly here. Could it be that 3rd party programs interfere? Are you sure that you have enabled Custom Copy?

Of course, bugs cannot be fixed for old versions. All bugs are fixed at the frontline of development, so the fixes are always released in the latest available version.

1. For operation Copy, then Paste (Move), I can attest that I tried 2 times and both times, the dates are not kept. I've moved a whole folder containing many folders and sub-folders, about 100 of them or even more.

2. Out of string space! - I copied 100,000 files (400GB). I click to see the Report, even though I saw that it has 0 failed, 0 skip, because I'm testing out XYplorer and getting familiarize with it, as I've not used XYplorer since 2 years ago. Since it reports an error of string space, I'm rather worried that if I use it to backup or copy in future, and there are failed files, and I cannot access the Report, then I will not know which files had failed, right?

Can I use the Log file to see which File has failed? I did not configure to have Log file, because I thought to myself that Summary Report is good enough. Perhaps I should activate Log File in the configuration too? Does it help, or it will also show the same error?

3. On collision during the Custom Copy, then Paste (Copy) operation, it prompts for a Selection. I chose to Add suffix to increment filename, something like that. And the Creation Date, Modified Date, are all not kept, but instead, is current dates.

Screenshot of my Custom Copy configuration:

When will you offer your wonderful product to GiveawayoftheDay again? I got my version 11.90.0100 since 2 years ago, and tried it once or twice, then it was overlooked because 2 years ago, I was a total novice with computers and easily intimidated by the rich features of XYplorer. Recently, I've returned to XYplorer instead of Total Commander, all because the Long Filepath/Filename feature is so important to me, and Total Commander can only do it with integration with another free software, which makes it complicated for me to learn.

Can't you read? I'm talking about bugs in all my posts here.

On being sarcastic with me, I've really no time for back and forth trolling. If you've nothing useful to say, I suggest you .....

Time machine or not, I don't spend my time thinking hard on when I got the Version 11.9. I could have updated the initial version that I got 2 years ago, but left it alone on my hard disk, but why am I wasting my time with someone who's obviously after my blood? I've said I've donated to FreeFileSync, because I've used it and I've not encountered any bugs.

I've asked for whether XYplorer is offering to GOTD because that site is for testers and evaluators to test software and give their comment.

Affordability is not an issue. GOTD is not a site for free-loaders, lest you think you can give the site and all its users a bad name. I'm asking because I'm still testing this software and would like the latest version to test. That's all.

:)

And you're talking about a vers that in XY terms of releases, is the equivalent of W2K or W98 for an OS...way way obsolete!

I think most of the regulars would feel the same way -- wanting support for a free vers 2 yrs later is not reasonable.

And you can still update the vers to a current beta for 30 days and see if that works without paying.

For me and others, GOTD is a way to expose your software to people who may not have yet found it via other means -and- to provide a limited (in some way) vers for free that may entice people to later buy it.

We disagree...GOTD is, to me, a site for those on limited budget...and as stated above, there is nothing stopping you from installing a current vers/beta to test...other than you only have 30 days to use it and a couple of other minor limits...

This is ridiculous. Nowhere did I see that this forum is only for PAID user and I've stated clearly much earlier in this thread the version I'm using to Admin, which I presume is the developer. It's not that I'm here looking to debate with any of you guys on the merits of GOTD or free or paid software.

You're suggesting that because I'm having an older version, I should not be here looking for support or is it I'm having a free GOTD version, I should get lost or is it both?

Nevermind...

Hi Jaydee,
You are ofcourse entitled to ask questions here and we encourage that.
I personally don't care if you bought XY or not, but don't expect the author to fix bugs that exist with GOTD version or any older XY version.
If you see the GOTD terms and conditions for XY here, it clearly says:
Please note that the software you download and install during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
1) No free technical support;
2) No free upgrades to future versions;
3) Strictly personal usage.
So clearly, asking for any kind of support is not fair.
But some things to consider:
1) Author (or admin) makes a living out of this so has to answer paid customers first, and probably gets many more questions on his email, despite that he answered you.
2) He did offer an explanation as to what might be happening. And apparently some bugs you reported seem to be working fine on author's side. So maybe you can look into the config or ask here to get those sorted out.
3) Not just you, but even if a licensed user had a problem with an older version of XY, author cannot do anything about it, except for asking him/her to upgrade to the latest one.
That's how it works, one cannot go back to an old version and fix it. One has to upgrade to avail better versions (which for GOTD users is not an option).
So the only logical step is to get the latest version and try it out. And feel free to ask questions regarding its usage.
Good luck.

This is getting amusing with each post. From which part of my posts do you see me asking for support and asking for an upgrade of the gOTD version?

I'm reporting peculiar bugs I find while using software.

Granted it is a GOTD version, but I'm still having it.

I asked if XYplorer is going to showcase on GOTD again, that's all I'm asking. Don't tell me the GOTD version has bugs and the official paid version does not. That's what I was trying to find out.

The only thing I asked is the difference between Copy and Paste. If you consider that question as asking for support, then I've nothing to say.

Other than that, I'm just reporting bugs and errors I find. If these bugs and errors are not present in the latest PAID version, then just let me know. Again, if this is considered as asking for support, then I've been living in a cave all these years then, for I don't think this is asking for support.

OK, no one is preventing you from asking questions.
Your post was misleading as you are the one who said:
How do I get this bug resolved in my current version please?
Hence my post about terms and conditions of GOTD.
But seems like you got the point that bugs cannot be fixed in the GOTD version, so that's clear now.
As for the bugs 1,2 and 3, I haven't seen it happen. I often copy several files upto several GBs each day at work adn all works as expected.
To answer your question if the bug happens in the latest version, no it does not.
OS: Win7 32-bit
Next steps for you:
To make sure if the problem is in your config file or in this particular XY version, copy the XY's exe file to another folder and try reproducing this issue.

I'm not wanting to offend any potential buyer of XY but I just have to make a few more comments:
jaydee wrote:My Version of XYplorer is 11.90.0100 and I'm not entitled to upgrades. It's a fixed pro licence. How do I get this bug resolved in my current version please?
I added BOLD to show where you specifically asked for updates and support for a vers that not only obsolete now but has no support.
This is ridiculous. Nowhere did I see that this forum is only for PAID user and I've stated clearly much earlier in this thread the version I'm using to Admin, which I presume is the developer. It's not that I'm here looking to debate with any of you guys on the merits of GOTD or free or paid software.
Nowhere did any of us state or imply that this forum is for paid users only...we answered more than a few GOTD questions here at the time it was offered, but asking now is like I said, similar to wanting help with Win 98.
You're suggesting that because I'm having an older version, I should not be here looking for support or is it I'm having a free GOTD version, I should get lost or is it both?
The only vers that we as fellow users try to support are the latest Official and latest Beta vers...any other vers, we ask users to try it with either of those two, preferably the Beta vers, to verify if problem still exists...and any fixes will only be applied to Beta vers and a later Official vers.
This is getting amusing with each post. From which part of my posts do you see me asking for support and asking for an upgrade of the gOTD version?
Already mentioned above in which you did both in the last sentence.
I'm reporting peculiar bugs I find while using software.
And as stated, unless the same bug exists in most recent vers, as far as we're concerned, then the problem is presumed to have been fixed if it existed.
I asked if XYplorer is going to showcase on GOTD again, that's all I'm asking. Don't tell me the GOTD version has bugs and the official paid version does not. That's what I was trying to find out.
We all know that the GOTD vers as with any vers of any software has bugs in it...no software is 100% bug free, though aviation control systems tend to be quite close to bug free...and it's only Don/admin who knows if/when he'll have another giveaway, but it's quite rare.
Other than that, I'm just reporting bugs and errors I find. If these bugs and errors are not present in the latest PAID version, then just let me know. Again, if this is considered as asking for support, then I've been living in a cave all these years then, for I don't think this is asking for support.
Once again, I had suggested you use the trial vers of current XY to see for youself if those bugs have been resolved..and given the vast difference in vers nbrs between GOTD and now, it's very highly probable that those are now gone.

I don't want to be harsh to any XY forum user but when someone comes here and complains about a free vers of XY that is extremely obsolete, and doesn't want to try using the latest vers instead, I'm quite likely to try and defend my friend Don and XY.

Who's complaining about the product? Not me. I'm just sharing my experience on XY here and asking some questions. I thought I read someone butting in here insulting me when I'm already in a fine conversation with Don (Admin). That, to me is rude and uncalled for. There is no need to be sarcastic and babble on about time machine and all those unneeded retorts. It's not as if I hid the fact I'm using a GOTD version from anyone here and was caught out.

Also, resolving a bug in a current version of any software is the discretion of a software company. Some do and some don't. I'm just asking that, and not asking for an upgrade to the latest released version. I can accept an answer saying no bugs will be fixed unless user buys the latest beta. That's all fine with me. But to tell me to take a time machine? That is out of line.

I'm a product marketer myself, and an affiliate of a few great products, so I know that different companies have different support and bug reporting framework and it's not cast in stone, but so far, I've never heard of any user being told to take a time machine, except told to me here.

This is no way to defend Don and XY, when a defence is really not needed, neither is that time machine comment.

:)

No one told you to use time machine! You were more than once pointed to the fact that what you have been telling here does not seem to posses a full internal coherency. Your current statement with a time machine is an example of twisting the facts by making false statements.

My advice: Try the last beta yourself and checking if it suits you. XYplorer has the fastest pace of development I know of. If it suits you, write a mail to the developer and ask if a life time license could be obtained. Be ready to pay for it some 60 or I do not know how many bucks and enjoy the very last XYplorer version ever after.
