I personally use a free vers (limited functions) of pgrm SyncBack to get my C: and my external USB drive to match up...it gives me various options as to how to handle matched/unmatched...like if source found but not dest: auto delete source -or- auto copy dest to source -or- prompt for action -or- skip file...so I'd maybe take a quick look at that pgrm for some ideas on how to handle it and/or label things...

So we will end up with a configurable Backup and a configurable Sync... sigh! It's a strange law of nature that things tend to get more complicated the longer one thinks about them.

What are your settings?

With SyncBack, one can define the options for a "profile", which is a stored 'script' for a run...you define the input & output folders, and which opts you wish...so I can have one profile for "My Documents" that differs from "WINNT" profile...

In general, I have mine set so that "Source overwrites Dest always", "Source copied to Dest if NO Dest found", and "Prompt me if in dest but not in source"...because there are a few files that I want to keep a bit longer on my external drive than on my local...but using prompt, I can decide when they are ready to delete...

Personally, given that a decent vers of pgrm like SyncBack is avail for free, I'd not spend a whole lot of time making XY into a clone!
Let XY concentrate on the things that no other pgrm can do better and easier already....at least for users like myself!

Hi;

I agree with you. I use to use SyncBack but now use Abakt for backing up and syncing files/folders. No need for https://www.xyplorer.com in this case.

Well, my first idea would be to add tabs header above the folder lists: Recently Used, Tab List, Favorite Folders
Makes it obvious/natural & easy for everyone how to use it I think, even keeps a "parallel" (not sure you can say that that way in English ) with the menu-based interface from the context menu (I mean having the 3 lists all together)
(might even be cool if the last used tab here could be remembered )

ps: seems the mouse wheel doesn't work in the lists here. :/

No no, nothing got slower. Windows is a complex and mysterious being, many riders are riding the CPU... try again.

Yep, had the same idea in the meantime, but I'm not very happy with it. Looks a bit overloaded (just as those menus) -- I wonder who uses all this apart from you

Must be something in Windows got wacky alright, or a timer that got out of alignment because this is what I got a little later on after an XY restart:

System timer must have got whacked because I can tell you that it did not take 22 1/2 seconds to load. 2 seconds at most.

I dont think it'd looked overloaded.. and sure think that they should be there, as thoose are part of the Move/Copy/Backup To feature (especially since Fav Folders cannot be in recently used list; and they are fav folders ).

Maybe your concern isn't about thoose new windows, but the features itself (ie having thoose in both windows and menus). Then I'd say: Seriously dude, you cannot remove Fav Folders from here!!
About the Tab list, i dunno. Maybe. I don't ever used it there, but that's just me (not speaking for millions of people on this one ) Might not to needed here, since you can D&D onto tabs, or if it's for common task they'll be added in the MRU list after the first time...

So that's why it is so quiet here...

I know there should be a couple of week delay before bumping threads, but just bumping anyways (in names of millions still ) cause of what i said earlier : "especially since Fav Folders cannot be in recently used list"

That used to be true, but I see you changed that when thoose features are used through thoose new windows, now fav folders can be/are then added to the MRU.
Well, let me just repeat myself: I really liked how it worked/work through menus, with the MRU on one side, and the fav folders on another (actually, and tabs on a third too ) and having the fav folders NOT added to the MRU, cause my fav folders are so cause I use them a lot, to jump there or to move/copy there, so it makes my MRU cleaner/shorter, as only populated by non-favorites.

Seems active members here might not feel the same way I do , but Im sure non-forum'ers do....

Just installed the new "Portable File Manager" (5.10.0009) and checked the options in move/copy/backup to ctx menus, but couldn't see any difference, though I'm running XP SP2...
