Ah, thanks for reminding me why I originally decided for this menu item format:

Code: Select all

 C:\ - (C:) Drive Caption
 I had changed this today stupidly... will turn it back...

Always at mouse cursor would be an improvement I think.

For mouse users? Absolutely! But for all the people who prefer using a keyboard (+ kb shortcuts) this isn't very helpful because mouse position is not really relevant to them. Could you at least add an option to attach the popup to the current active pane (instead of the tree), please?

Tree seems to make more sense to me.

Other opinions?

i don't really have a problem with all that, but maybe all will be more satisfied if this menu would popup on current tab location?(or even at mouse location, maybe)

Tree is the navigation control, List the content control.

All of those programs have a drive bar feature that I like for accessing a drive on my computer. The drive icon on the XYplorer Toolbar is okay but not as good as having a drive bar.
Would you or someone else be kind and post a couple of mini-screenshots of that GUI area from the best examples from other FM's so us who don't have/use those products can better follow what you mean? I think I know what it is but want to make sure.

Thanks!

Comments:
The DO style which is more vertical seems to take up too much screen space, esp if you have a wide screen.
The TC style makes it quite clear where to click each drive by having edges defined which I like, but drive icons aren't that great and look old.
The FreeComm is compact which is good, as is Altap.

Could this drive bar, if added to XY, be combined with another toolbar that is less than full width so as not to use up extra vertical space?
I would LOVE to have a second row of TB and thus a larger AB and that could then allow a DB as well.

These are almost the same kind of bars, the usual ones, not so special. I hope, Don can figure out a space friendly and innovative solution instead.

Personally I think something like this: only one row above tree, next to list panel. Drive bar width would be the same as tree panel width. (So it wastes only one row from tree) It would contain only drive letters, without fancy buttons and icons. 2 functions I appreciate: show only removable drives and hide if there isn't any removable.

Well, for me (as an example that such users are also here) a drive list without immediately visible drive "names" (as is now) is not usable (because I have so many).

For me, vertical is better then horizontal, because on the new screen format.

What about an optional "Show drives" which would control it (and show it) the same way the catalog is controlled today (but, very important for "keyboarders", make the drives somehow easily selectable via keyboard at the same time)?

In that way: the place for them is almost there (vertical, tree area); they can, but must not be visible; they are selectable via keyboard.

Negative: they would always be under/over the tree, but not by the active pane (not a problem for me, but obviously for some).

Regards,
Borut
P.S. Don, nice to see Ten. I am happy to realize I have invested in a good, continuously improving product. It seems that developer-user communication is not just a phrase here.

OK, I did something (v10.00.0005) that should satisfy at least some of the drivebarniks. 8)

Thank you for this. The beta changelog already mentions an improvement to come, but what I'm missing is the ability to right-click the drive button and get the shell context menu for the drive. Obviously just clicking the button to have the tree scroll to the drive and then right-clicking it, works, but it would be great to have that functionality with the toolbar button.

FWIW, other FM's drive bars already have this functionality.

OK, good idea.
