Faster File/Dir Renaming

I think I'm going to like this, I certainly like the idea of it. I'm just going to have to retrain my muscle memory to not just hit F2, DOWN when I want to append something to the filename. Now I have to press F2, RIGHT, LEFT... not so great. Better solutions welcomed

Tip: PageUp and PageDown have been trained to do the work of Up and Down...

I like very much this new feature.
But as I said in my last post, "I thought the cursor should return to the initial position before renaming, instead of keeping the position after renaming ?"

Suppose I have the next 3 files :
file1.xxx
file2.yyy
file3.zzz
I want rename them
file001.xxx
file002.yyy
file003.zzz

I am on the first one, cursor between "e" and "1" like file|1.xxx.
I tape "00" so file1 is renamed file001.xxx.
Cursor is still before "1" but after the second "0" like file00|1.txt
When I down the cursor, I reach the second file, cursor is now apter the dot (like file2.|txt)
So I have to LEFT twice before begin taping "00".

What I ask is that the cursor return to its initial position when I DOWN the cursor to rename the next file.

Ah, I see. No, too complex/non-intuitive. The current behavior is like moving around in a textbox -- everybody knows how this works.

If it is too complex, I understand you don't want to change that behaviour.

But, if not, I think this would allow a lot of time.
For example, I want to add some string, always the same one, at the same position of the name of many files.
I tape once that string, I copy it in the clipboard, then I enter in renaming mode.
I go to the wanted position, then I paste, then DOWN, then paste, then DOWN, and so on.
Even if we can do that by some other method like Search/Replace or Batch Rename, it is always simpler to use the traditional renaming method.

If it seems not intuitive, it could be as an option, so the user can choose the behaviour.

Of course, it should be the same behaviour in Rename special Edit item names window.

Yes, a very handy feature to which I even assigned Ctrl+F2. That's why I consider that it should have the same behaviour, that is have the possibility to keep the same horizontal position when we move from line to line, even after have renamed.

But, if not, I think this would allow a lot of time.

This mean to remember the position (return to the initial position).

...or a quick little regex rename...

1. select all
2. ALT+F2
3. file > file00

Cleverer people than me could probably come up with a way to do this generically, but this works...

Yes, thanks. That is finally a simple solution (if Alt+F2 is assigned to Regexp Rename)
I wanted to avoid Regexp or Batch Rename, but too bad, not so complex after all.

Don, I renounce to my request, because I saw that when cursor reaches short name files, it returns at its last character and so the previous position is lost anyway.
I'll do as in any text editor

Anyway, Edit Item Names and Rename in line with up/down are terrific features.
