This implies that you already had a mapping active in the guest. Could you delete *all* mappings and then recreate them with Windows Explorer: Tools > Map network drive? Both WE as well as XYplorer for testing, should not be elevated for this.

Tried it. Does not change anything.

As you see in the shot the drive is recognized by XY as "nichtverbundenes netzlaufwerk" (unconnected network drive), and the red cross icon overlay confirms this status, although it is fully browsable without problems. Strange.

The one thing you could try, if you haven't already done so, is to disable UAC and reboot. Other than that, a partial workaround would be to use the UNC path in the Address Bar to access the drive.

I should be able to test this from Friday evening. Sorry I can't be of more help right now.

Disabling UAC made it possible to browse the drive as Admin, but the red cross overlay stayed nonetheless, whether as Admin or not.

Does Ctrl+Shift+F4 help?
No.

How are you planning on skinning it? WindowBlinds or MSSTYLE format? This skin appears to look good enough -- http://komalo.deviantart.com/art/Border ... -145674405 -- though I have not tried it myself.
I checked the site but it does look all but reliable. Aren't there any more reputable sources for skins?

I do not agree with you that it is not reliable -- I have sourced WindowBlinds skins from it in the past and continue to get Win7 visual styles that I like the look of. Another source is WinCustomize, which is hosted and run by Stardock Corporation, which is the parent company of WindowBlinds software. If that's not reliable...

@admin: Red cross through network drive icon confirmed when using the latest VirtualBox (3.2.8 ). I don't see this problem in VMware, so at the moment it seems VirtualBox-specific. I'll do some more digging tomorrow.

Glad to hear that it's not my fault. :)

OK, I found some nice WBA file there. Is it correct that I have to purchase the WindowBlinds software for $19.95 to actually use that WBA file?

@admin: I've had no luck getting VirtualBox to show network drives as connected, unfortunately. The problem does seem to be that shared folders mapped as network drives, show up as connected in 64-bit apps but as disconnected in 32-bit apps. I've posted in VirtualBox's forum asking for help. Should that get me something, I'll let you know.

I can confirm your observation. Thanks for trying!

Correct. WBA is a proprietary file format that stands for WindowBlinds Archive. Thus, you need the software in order to make use of that file.
