i think it's no harm to let it as it is.
At least it's an quick way to add files to the history that way.

files (documents). Folders work, executables work, but the
interface is mainly meant to quickly open a recently opened
document again.
Just an question:
shouldn't "File > Open..." be renamed to smtg like "File > Open Document..." too, to make this clear?

1. I see a little harm because it makes the function context dependent which adds complexity.
2. I prefer short catchy captions, and in my understanding "Open" kind of implies "document". For non-docs one would rather use "run".
