i found this png named "queue" in my "random icons" folder.
i don't think this image would look good as a TB, but the idea is kind of interesting: traffic light == queue.

quicktime, anyone?

This
is my current icon concept already. Did you notice the colors...? And BTW, I like my icon, what's the problem with it?

Sorry, it looks nothing like a traffic light, and my mind never even went in that direction. Frankly, it looks more like the hypnotizing visual effect used in the 70's. If I were asked to guess an object it was designed to represent, I would have guessed a placemat from IKEA long before I guessed a traffic light.
I'm sorry, Don - for me, I simply find it unattractive.

Of course it's not a plain traffic light, come on, it's a meskalin-supported abstraction of a traffic light. Move your mind...
Lightning shall strike me if I add a real traffic light icon to the toolbar.

In regards to toggling the feature on/off.
What about user defined parameters to determine what gets queued or not?
Always queue files meeting this criteria:
Single item copy > 10MB
Total selected items size > 100MB
Extension = rar,zip,iso
Parent folder = Movie_Downloads
Never Queue these file types:
Single item copy < 1MB
Total selected items size < 10MB
Extension = txt,png
Parent folder = Desktop
In all honesty now that I look at my idea again the two options seem redundant. I guess we only need to define when not to queue and then let everything else go.
So just this --
Never Queue these file types:
Single item copy < 1MB
Total selected items size < 10MB
Extension = txt,png
Parent folder = Desktop
I really like the queue feature but I will forget to toggle it on/off. Also, this may be more convenient for the average user?
Thanks!

Please wait till you see today's beta. It does support
unlimited parallel processing so you will get almost immediate results for smaller jobs even when larger jobs are being processed. (Assuming that this was the purpose of your suggestion.)

I'm replying here to a post
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 791#p44791 from the other locked thread as I am unable to do so there because i have an issue with zer0's reply to me:
zero wrote:j_c_hallgren wrote:2) Yes, "cancel" is needed! It's available on WE context and serves as way to abort using only mouse/TP.
3) Given that WE and other FM's use the "here", we should also as that appears to be standard..
2) Really? Neither white space nor file context menu in WE (on XP) feature "Cancel". Also, what would you be aborting?
3) Once again, on XP, neither of WE's context menus shows any sign of "here"...
Huh?

I just checked my other laptop which has XP and in WE, it most certainly has both Cancel and 'here'!
This screenshot is from my W2K but looks identical on XP:
SS - 03-19-10 @ 11-11-44001.jpg
And what would I be aborting?: Any operation I started by right-clicking and dragging a item! Because if I change my mind and decide to
not copy/move/shortcut that item, how else would I abort it using
ONLY my touchpad?

Yes, my bad JC. I hadn't realised that it's a context menu for RMB DnD. That being said, compare the compactness of WE's menu with that of XY -- there's so much "in your face" in terms of menu items, it almost feels like the context menu is showing off

(sure, XY is a lot more powerful than WE, but I feel some smartness is missing in that particular part of GUI)
If
admin wrote:Re the menu reorganization suggestion: No, thanks. I think it's fine as it is.
is true, then why

honestly, no,
to me it looks more like a jamaican mandala.
admin wrote:And BTW, I like my icon, what's the problem with it?
it just looks a bit weird among the other button in the toolbar.
maybe because most of xy's TB icons are somewhat square or round and light colored.
BTW, i have a CTB for my "stop" button for the same reason.

Wonderful! Isn't Jamaica the epitome of queued background processing?

Well, as long as it doesn't take after the Jamaican bobsled team! But they also got a movie made after them so...maybe we'd have "XY - the movie!"...

Liking the new queue icon as of today
Also really liking the pimped status log...again particularly the icons... but couple of observations (and apologies if these are in the pipeline)
If I cancel a copy - it still shows with a green tick in the status log?
The status log doesn't show the file/files/folders being copied only the destination? Although I'm not sure how it would handle hundred of files being copied (maybe just list the copy folder/directory and the number of files/folders copied?).
Also are there any plans to show the estimated time remaining.
Any finally - and this may be unrealistic in terms of speed - any chance of having a semi-live preview of time remaining in the status log (with user definable update period).
Also is there anyway to hide the copy dialogue if we are using the queue (at the moment I need it to still show - for the progress bar though - unless of course the progress bars could be included in the log?)
We don't ask for much do we

phatmankerr wrote:If I cancel a copy - it still shows with a green tick in the status log?
Yes, this is semi-nice, I know. The green tick just means "job completed" from the POV of the queue. The shell API unfortunately is not very clear about what / how much was cancelled during the job. It just returns a flag that "something was cancelled". So if the job contains just one file to copy and "something was cancelled" (e.g. an overwrite prompt was cancelled) I know for sure that nothing was done and the whole job could get a "cancelled" icon. But if there are 2 or more files (or one folder) I don't know what really happened.
A solution could be to replace the green tick by another icon that has less connotation with "successfully done" but just with "done". But what icon would that be?

Most of this will only be possible with the kernel API based copy which will come with XYcopy 2.0.
