I'm wondering if the crashes are system resource related.

Note that the crashes have been fixed in the meantime. They were existing for exactly one month in the BETAs after v8.10.0007 and have been fixed in v8.10.0020.

I checked Build 021. No crashes so far. Great!

So, is XY seeing the file creation from Windows before the space is allocated, and then not flagging the change in disk allocation as a change? Hence, the error might occur on larger files and if the allocated space is fragmented. I'll keep a check out of curiosity.

But, also, under certain conditions, XY might be getting incorrect information about file system changes, which is causing these crashes. I haven't been aware of any unexplained crashes, I can usually tie them down to something causing them.

I can change the refresh rate in x² because it's length has been discussed on the forum. I don't know about T.C. but I will look.
mikes16 has confirmed in the meantime that the unexplained background crashes have been fixed in v8.10.0020. They were existing for exactly one month in the BETAs after 8.10.0000.

Gandolf, I did not read your post as a bug report. To me it looks like XY behaves OK. Where do you see a bug here?

I was only commenting on your remark:
admin wrote:... Maybe XY has a faster refresh rate than the other managers so they don't see the zero size state?
and suggesting that the refresh speed might be contributing to the crashes.

If there are not posts to the effect that a bug has been fixed then I, and other users, don't know. I'm not telepathic.

Displaying incorrect size, even if it's only transitory, for a file could be regarded as a bug. Perhaps that is why other file managers don't refresh so fast, to avoid an irregularity in Windows.

Windows tells me there's a file of that name, and I measure the size of that file, and it's zero. If that's incorrect then it's a Windows bug.
