You are free to believe what you want to believe.
Yes and it is unfortunate that you have...
1) Shown absolutely zero comprehension, or even an effort to comprehend, other users' posts;
2) Refused to answer questions that would help us understand why you will not upgrade from v7.90.0261;
3) Continue to evade discussing the actual problem or addressing the points of others by making unrelated posts;

I'm left to conclude that you just want to be a troll in these forums.

Good luck convincing Don to supply you with bug fixes and double his workload each time he introduces a feature you don't like...

What a lot of words there...
j_c, you should be the very last person on this forum to talk about someone using a lot of words...
Remember that no one is holding you at gunpoint forcing you to use DP :P
Let's explore this a little.
Let's assume that I care nothing about DP, so I choose to stick with the last v7 version.
One day, one of my users finds a bug in this last v7 version.
I create a post related to this bug.
The response I get is, "It has been fixed in v8.0.x, so download that new version".

Now, isn't that forcing me to use this new DP version?
...it's a choice and beside the minor UI changes that TheQwerty mentioned and a couple of other very minor places where DP is visible, like in the Config>Panes, there is absolutely no reason why you cannot continue to use current vers and just operate in a SP mode...we have some users who never even use tabs, and they get along just fine...some ppl never use the catalog and get along fine also...so just ignore the DP and you'll be fine...
Obviously you do not provide tech support to anyone. I cannot simply "ignore" DP. Let's leave it at that.
And as far as I'm concerned, this "hybrid" as you call it already seems to be more cohesive than other products that have had DP for years!
Your exposure is not as great as you believe.
Addendum: You went for about 20 months from first post until this latest surge with NO postings here compared to us who interact almost daily so why should we now pay attention to these tantrums, if we're going to use a baby analogy? Had you been an active participant, especially when DP was being developed, I'd have just a bit more respect for your opinions...but that's my $.02....oh, and whenever someone whom I don't know refers to me as "friend", I almost always assume they mean the opposite but just don't want to say so.
Friend, I am a software developer.
I designed circuits in physics lab for my Computer Science degree before there was a Windows 3.0.
You have a tendency to assume the worst when you do not have enough information to come to a rational and logical conclusion.

I have read your rant; now would you like to see mine?

I use XYplorer every day; I use it as part of my job. I love it. The admin is a genius.
My mantra is: "Ask not what XYplorer can do for you, ask what you can do for XYplorer".

Many times i have done something with XYplorer and wondered, "Boy, I wish they did this differently. It sure would make my day easier!"
The difference between you and me, is that before I run to make a "Wish" post, I ask myself, "Is this something that would be of benefit to other users, or just my pet peeve?"

Let's take this further.

IMO, the admin is perfectly justified in stating that:
1. XYplorer was a SP file manager, and everyone who bought licenses, whether lifetime or not, knew that it was so when they purchased it.
2. Adding DP functionality is not just another feature; it is an entirely different paradigm, so therefore it is perfectly reasonable to come up with a new key and pricing scheme for this new product.
3. Given the above, I will freeze XYplorer SP feature requests, and handle only bug fixes for this version for the next one or two years.
4. For lifetime license holders, I will charge a small fee of maybe 10-15 euros to give you a new key; regular users can buy a new license, since this is a new product.

Of course, the admin won't do that, because he is a nice guy.

But my question to you, j_c, is that since you are an XYplorer's champion defender, why didn't you suggest something like this while someone "who hasn't posted for 20 months" could?

I am sorry I don't fit your definition of a "community member" (AKA "Team Player"), but I don't really care about you or your "community"; I care about XYplorer.

U.

Friend, you seem to forget this is Don's child, not yours.
I do not need to convince Don, much less convince you; I bought a license, I am entitled to voice my concerns, and I shall do so regardless of your opinion.

You see where this is going?
Yes, I do; I wouldn't be here if I didn't.
Now ask yourself the same question.
Yes and the answer is, its going nowhere. BTW, I am a SPaner too and to me nothing has changed really except that there is a DP if I need it. But I am not forced to use it and it does not affect my SP usage in anyway. For some the Layout has been an issue but Don has already said it will be taken care of.
Now what exactly is wrong with the current version? It would be more useful if you could argue this with examples and details about what is causing you problems.

It is irrational to assume that just because you cannot see it going anywhere, someone else cannot.

i don't understand what is the point in bashing DP, even being a hardcore SP'er myself (i used DP less then 10 times since it's 1st beta release).
no one is being forced to use DP, and the only negative changes to SP were the tree taking some of the tabs' space and the loss of the "TOOLBAR | TABS" layout.
however, the former is easily outweighed by the fact that now you can have up to double the space for tabs by using the 2nd pane in SP mode.
this is a great addition for SP, and i use it very often.
so much, in fact, that i used HotkeyP to map this command to the middle mouse button.

these changes are specially noticeable in my 1024x768 screen, where every saved pixel can make a difference, but they are not so drastic that you can't get used to them.
besides, Don might even provide a "fix" for them in the future if there is enough demand.

DP version, yes.
DP interface, no.
since when are they the same thing?
xy8 use single-pane mode by default, after all.
have you actually tried to use it before posting all this?
Uagadugu wrote:I cannot simply "ignore" DP. Let's leave it at that.
err, you can.
you just don't want to.
Uagadugu wrote:Many times i have done something with XYplorer and wondered, "Boy, I wish they did this differently. It sure would make my day easier!"

IMHO, you should just go ahead and post those wishes.
some of xys important features stated off as a single post in the wishes forum.
even a simple wish posted might be further discussed and evolve to an exciting new feature.
and if Don doesn't like the idead he will say so (as he did many times before :) ).

i believe your "DP makes XY8 a new product" statement is not exactly right.
it's true that it's a feature important enough to warrant a new version.
but nearly all the other features remained the same, so it shouldn't be considered a new product.

I'm going to make my quotes/responses here as brief as I can...
Uagadugu wrote:The response I get is, "It has been fixed in v8.0.x, so download that new version".
Now, isn't that forcing me to use this new DP version?
Yes, to use the DP version but not DP itself, which is what I said, if you actually read the sentence.
Uagadugu wrote:Obviously you do not provide tech support to anyone. I cannot simply "ignore" DP. Let's leave it at that.
You most certainly can ignore DP...and I have provided tech support, among other duties, to other computer users for 30+ yrs, both as paid and volunteer, so I do know that it's possible...if you can't, then it's your inability that is the problem, not XY.
Uagadugu wrote:Your exposure is not as great as you believe.
You have no clue as to what I've seen or used so you have no basis for your claim...I've seen native DP products that look like a bunch of junk assembled together...and they are well-known.
Uagadugu wrote:Friend, I am a software developer. I designed circuits in physics lab for my Computer Science degree before there was a Windows 3.0.
Ok, I was also a software developer...for 25+ yrs...I have a CS degree also...and I was using PC's before there was any Windows...so what relevance does any of that have to this topic? Absolutely none!
You have a tendency to assume the worst when you do not have enough information to come to a rational and logical conclusion.
Enough with the personal attacks, ok? And I know that anyone who calls me a "friend" in discussions like this will never be one.
Many times i have done something with XYplorer and wondered, "Boy, I wish they did this differently. It sure would make my day easier!" The difference between you and me, is that before I run to make a "Wish" post, I ask myself, "Is this something that would be of benefit to other users, or just my pet peeve?"
You don't know my thought process so don't assume anything...many times I've posted a wish to make things better/easier for others for things that I don't even use myself!
Uagadugu wrote:I am sorry I don't fit your definition of a "community member" (AKA "Team Player"), but I don't really care about you or your "community"; I care about XYplorer.
Well, if you don't care about this "community", then you just can't care about XY, as they are linked like twins.
Uagadugu wrote:I do not need to convince Don, much less convince you; I bought a license, I am entitled to voice my concerns, and I shall do so regardless of your opinion.
 So...you bought a license...great...but you also chose to ignore this forum for 20+ months, and especially during the DP development when you should have expressed any of your concerns...DP is part of XY now, no matter how much you dislike that...
