I was looking for a syntax highlighting text editor as well.
My favourite choice is 'plainedit' which has all I need. :) portable and free :)
Started with proton a while ago as well ...

I was wondering, whether Don or anybody else got a list of scripting commands that are still supported but not anymore documented in help (like the pre-function version of getkey) or do I have to - even further back in time - check the changelogs to find the ones, that haven't been deprecated?
Take a look at New User's Guide - for now, It's all I can do. Hope this helps in your project. Refer to xyPlorer_NewUsersGuide_pt1.rar - Scripting.txt.
Phase 2 is exactly filtering out outdated/deprecated/converted sript commands and functions, while conserving then apart for future reference.
