I followed the steps I layed out above: delete cache files, delete entry in XYthumbs.txt, save all settings, closed XYplorer, rebooted, started XY and traveled to the subject folder. After XY built about 12 thumbnails including one of the text label image files, I stopped the thumbnail building and looked in the thumbnail folder and it used a proper has 72cd3a34cc9fc557271c6f15c02ea3bd. So all is well. I'm not sure why it reverted back to using the bad hash a number of times yesterday. Maybe I hadn't properly saved everything before I exited XY and rebooted, but I don't care. Thanks Don.

I can't find any part of the code that could produce such a "bad hash". Might have been a one-time hiccup of the crypt API.

Yeah I've been dealing with XY's thumbnails for quite some time and never encountered this. What surprised me is that two times I had deleted those bad thumbnail cache files, restarted XY, accessed the image folder, and XY used the same bad hash files that I previously deleted. It wasn't until I performed all the steps mentioned in my previous post that it resolved. Thanks again.
