Re: How to stop a long branch view from getting "rescanned"?

Yes, the Everything results list is like a cached search from XY's POV. All file metadata has to be retrieved one by one. Whereas in a file system scan the metadata comes very fast in big chunks.

Theoretically, of course, XY could cache ALL metadata. It would be a bit memory hungry if you have many tabs, and it would get stale over time, but it would be insanely fast.

I now came up with the following user button as a work-around for a Branch View with lots of files:

Code: Select all

Snip: CTB 1
  XYplorer 26.20.0101, 05.07.2024 12:25:15
Action
  NewUserButton
Name
  Banch View in new window
Icon
  :flatview*#7FDBFF,r
ScriptL
  #182;
    run """<xy>"" /readonly /new /script=""::tab('closeothers');#311;""", , 0, 0;
ScriptR

ScriptM

FireClick
  0
How to use:
  1. Copy the code.
  2. Make new user button.
  3. In the Edit User Button dialog right-click on the "Clear" button.
  4. Choose "Paste Snippet".
  5. Click "OK".
  6. Click on the new user button.

The new button does the following:
  1. It saves the current settings
  2. It opens a new XY read-only instance (with the current settings)
  3. It closes all other tabs (besides the current one) in that new instance
  4. It starts a Branch View in that new instance

If you use Session Manager viewtopic.php?t=8691 then you can choose your own session title and have it also displayed in the title bar.
