@eil:

Yes, I'm thinking about a way to make this more accessible to the simple man. For testing I made myself a bookmark goto "?prop:#image.hash:10~<curitem>";, 10 seems to be a good value. I'd rather have a fixed value than explaining the concept of tolerance (this is already too much nowadays I think -- no double meaning intended :) ).

This could be added to the default Custom File Associations:
|"Find Similar Images" {:Image}>::goto "?prop:#image.hash:10~<curitem>"
Okay, people won't find it, but it works well. :)

Or just another toolbar button. Most folks can manage a button.

Thanks for the slick feature! This is what I had in mind at first, and here it is full-fledged already.

I'm just testing .0306 since the algorithm/hash changes in the recent betas since .0301 and I find that it doesn't work as well anymore for me, even if I have the same image just in different sizes it doesn't find a match anymore unless I use a massive tolerance which of course returns many false positives. Anyway it's just feedback, maybe it works better when using it in other scenarios like comparing photos rather than created images, but I haven't tested that as much on the different betas to be able to compare.

Yeah, it's interesting. For me it was the opposite. I still don't quite understand it. Also, PNG and JPEG are sometimes visually indistinguishable, but produce very different hashes. There's more to images than you can see.

Anyway, I will let you tweak the hashing method in the next beta.

PS: I would use your pictures for some tests if you send them to me.

Just tested .0309 with new default settings, and it seems even better than .0301 now, and when I sort a folder by hash the results look similar, I haven't tried changing hash type yet, but the new defaults seem much improved to me. :tup:

Probably no need now, but attached was just 1 set of images that I had handy that I was testing with, 2 are the same img in different sizes and another that is just similar (wildcard), in .0301 I would get the 2 same imgs but not the wildcard, now I get all 3, I know it's not an extensive test, it's just 1 small example of the few I have been using.

Thanks.

BTW, "Similarity Total", "Similarity High" etc... does this sound very weird in English? Should it rather be "Total Similarity", "High Similarity" ... ?

Isn't "Total" simply "Best"?

Case closed. Decided to move it to the back: "Total Similarity", "High Similarity" ...
