Don, maybe consider Glider as a feature a user could employ or not like some of the other features (e.g., file tagging, scripting, UDCs, Dual pane).

I never used it
why wait for the floating menu and then choose the action. drag by mouse is more faster and practical

Wanna add sudden story to my words.
Just today i had a situation when i was on a road and needed to do lots of items reorganization, yet couldn't use mouse and had to deal with touchpad(which is A Pain when lots of drag'n'drop needed). And suddenly the Glider was really helpful, 'cause hold-to-drag wasn't needed, plus i had not only 2 panels, but a tree as a third space for fast re-locations.
So i'd say instead of dismissing this feature, maybe just like Filehero proposed it should be expanded over the List, and transformed into some "no-drag mode", specifically for using on touchpads/touch-screens. That would allow to do basic operations with Glider by hovering anywhere, yet even calling usual right-click context menu(via additional button).
It's just indeed not a useless feature to get rid of.!

Keep v25.90 for situations where you really need it, call it XYglider.exe, it's just 11 MB. :)

hi! apparently i am in the small (known) group of users that do use it.

i don't like the sudden removal of features that have been released in a "Release". to me, that's what the beta round was for. once it hits "release", it should stay or should have been archived or removed during the beta stages. if you are insistent on removing it, please do so in the next round of betas. this way, those of us that do use it, can lock in on the next "release" that contains it and Rapid Access and can then disable further updates until something new and worthwhile comes around. i would prefer not to juggle multiple EXEs simply because of a single feature.

personally i don't like this trend. now that Rapid Access has gained traction, what's next ? remove Favorite Folders ? because i use those too !

What's the Glider?
I auto update XY on every startup, so miss new features unless I check the beta update post. But Updates are just way too fast to keep up with, for me at least.

No you have it wrong. Don's planning on ditching the Glider (i.e., removing Glider code altogether) so I was making a plea to safe it by making it an optional feature like those mentioned.

Ahhh ... yes ... my bad. So basically all Don needs to do is leave it as is instead of removing it completely. Unless it's taking many lines of code and only one or two users are using it. Too bad more users aren't responding to this thread with their opinion.

I'm not only getting feedback from this forum. There is also email and other forums. NOBODY ever mentioned the glider. It was a LOT of work, it works great, but it's a flop. Making it an optional feature does not make a difference to me, the code would still be there.

After you saying it was a LOT of work adding the Glider, ditching it feels even more like a waste of all those efforts spent. Maybe instead of "clearing space" you should consider efforts to slow shift to some "module structure", so main code is one thing and some big-code-features is "a plugin". It's not just about the Glider - inevitably code will grow more in future and always deleting something, especially already polished and fine working, is not the best way to keep code tidy.
