Then maybe the current versions don't install the x86 parts anymore (Windows Explorer = 64-bit, XY = 32-bit).

Uninstall K-Lite, get this version: https://files3.codecguide.com/K-Lite_Co ... _Basic.exe

Install it (with Advanced set to true), make sure you see this screen and that the checkmark "Install only 64-bit components" is NOT set!

Maybe the current version does, I'll check, because upgrades just uses whatever settings you originally had set.

But regardless, how would that relate to Length showing up for other formats? Wouldn't it not be there for all?

I took the current version of K-Lite and installed it on another Win11 (not the exact same version of Win11 or hardware) given that it still had the install option you showed (and it was unchecked).

No XY problem with mp4, just like before K-Lite on that system.

So I used the accompanying Codec Tweak Tool (something I haven't used in years) to compare the working and non-working systems. There were some definite differences, particularly in the Preferred Decoder section (a section which is broken down between 32 and 64-bit, incidentally), but surprisingly none of that mattered.

Using the same tool, I tried a Settings Reset (everything but Media Player Classic), but even that didn't help.

I then ran the current version installer on the trouble system and saw the Fresh Install option, but before considering that I tried the Update/Modify one, which steps through all the setup screens. A number of those screens were different from the working system (though I'm not sure why given the earlier reset), but I didn't change any of them and just let it do the reinstall as is. And somehow that worked.

But unfortunately I don't really know why. While it is true that I never run the Update/Modify option when it comes time to needing to run the full installer (which they make you run a handful of times a year instead of the normal Update installer), the "Fast update" option that I normally use should effectively do the same thing if you don't want to change any settings, which I didn't in the above case.

So, I guess the moral is, if you need to use K-Lite at all (because uninstalling it would have worked, too), do an Update/Modify type install (as opposed to a Fast Update), and if that doesn't work, a Fresh Install.

Thanks

I have to amend the conclusion that I drew before.

For whatever reason, this is reliably caused by a Windows build upgrade. The only remedy I know (since resetting it to defaults somehow doesn't work) is to first run the latest non-Update K-Lite installer (Update/Modify and Fast Update will both work, so whichever you want) followed by the the latest K-Like Update one (if available).

I have little doubt that there's some trick to it short of doing that, but I haven't found it yet.
