I hoped i could do thesame thing as you... i had set the "Allow multiple" and "Open New always" options more then 12 times now with closing and opening xyplorer multiple times. Every time i closed and reopened xyplorer the options where disabled again!
Even after i did a file, settings, save configuration and repeted the steps again.
The problem with me is worse... i can't get a second session whatever i try.
I'm on windows xp, so can't be admin rights (and then it wouldn't work before either, i just have this problem with 7.20.0000 version. If this gets fixed in a beta version then i would install a beta version for the first time ever

Yes you are right! But the problem is opposite for me. I cannot seem to force XY to have a single instance. No matter what I do, i always get a second instance when i click XY icon on desktop.
Infact I cannot find the ini value for "Allow multiple instances". I see only "AlwaysNewInstance=0" which i guess is for "Open new instance always". Can anybody lead to me the right place in ini?

I've tested this under Vista: This just changes the sub-option "Open new instance always" (mustn't it be called "Always open new instance"?). The option "Allow multiple instances" never get saved and I don't find an INI setting for this.
While testing this I've also noticed that the function "Restart without Saving" doesn't seem to work. I've loaded the INI file the whole time in my Notepad++ and every time I use this command Notepad++ tells me that the file was modified by another program...

I already did set the AlwaysNewInstance=1 in the ini file and restarted... didn't help either... There is something wrong with this that's the only thing i know for sure

Hey all: We've now got competing dual threads about the same issue so given that it seems there are some issues with this option, let's consolidate this 'single instance' discussion into the Bug Reports thread at
Big problem! No multiple instances possible
BTW, I also was unable to locate any INI setting that relates to "Allow Multiple Instances" specifically so where it's hiding, I'm not sure.
Addendum: Totally

now! I can't get dual instances to work now, yet I had it working an hour ago!

Confirmed! Fix comes...
