I make all updates of the portable version after closing XY
and never had any conflict or problem to update all files.

Not the installer, XY itself attempts to close them on exit. No idea why it fails. Cannot reproduce a fail here.
Just curious: Are you upgrading to a new version while the current version is doing file operations in the background?
I am not, upgrades are always performed during an idle state, not in the middle of file manipulation.
At my residence I have other screenshots showing a great number of XYcopy's in the background (I believe I've captured as many as 8-10).
I work with lots of UNC file transfers and occasionally notice glithches or issues (e.g. If you have many queued operations, and perform a delete operation, when it finishes deleting it will start the next action in the queue, despite the prior action being incomplete
OR Under a UNC path, create a new folder, immediately hit F2 to rename that "New Folder" folder, XYplorer often crashes (I believe this is an race condition)). That UNC file work is the only thing I could come up with that many people may not run into.
In my experiences; I have never seen XYplorer.exe close XYcopy.exe (as the dev. you know better than I) but I am also unsure of a time when this would occur other than the update process (e.g. I can close XYplorer and XYcopy stays running when doing file operations).

Is "Delete [...]" ticked in Configuration | File Operations | File Operations | Background Processing | Apply to...?

Yes, but by the notes Delete runs parallel. By my understanding Delete should not complete it's operation then trigger the next queued operation, correct?

That's correct, and AFAIK this has been reported as bug (and has been fixed) in 2012:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7599
A completed deletion only triggers the next job in the queue if there are no other queued jobs in progress at this point in time.
But I see a possible hole in the implementation now that I will fill in the next beta (v22.40.0202). Let me know if that makes any difference.

I apologize for being off-topic. If you prefer I can start a new post regarding this issue.
I also can't repeat it consistently, but it seems to occur when I'm "Moving Quickly" if that makes any sense (hence the belief it's a race condition).
I'll start recording when I'm doing some of that quick sorting work to see if I can't catch it.
The steps (more verbosely) that seem to cause the issue:
º Always in a UNC path (Can't recall if my mapped drives do it or not)
º In a directory:
- Create a new folder (I have a hotkey setup for this: Ctrl+N)
º As "New Folder" appears:
- Hit F2
º Occasionally I can get a letter or two of the name in, but XY crashes here.
º Re-start XY & browse to the folder
º It will still be named "New Folder"
- Regardless if I manage to type letters into the renaming, it
always crashes before the renaming occurs. The folder is always named "New Folder" when XY restarts.

How do you create a new folder? (Which command do you use?)

Apologies, I was editing the comment above when you replied, does this process help?

I'm surprised about the "Hit F2". It should enter rename mode by itself. No need for F2.

It's a fair point. I was trying to convert muscle memory into steps. As I said, I'll work towards capturing it.

I do not think this provides enough information (maybe the fault offset).
But XY Crashed (UNC, New Folder, Rename Crash) and this is what Event Viewer had to say;

Thanks, but does not help. I need the steps to reproduce it.
What about the other problem? Still got XYcopy processes hanging around since v22.40.0202?

I do. Here is what I saw from the single instance I have orphaned at the moment.
