Thanks for the update! I've tested the latest beta and found /p switch is working but /x switch is not.
The main point is that we should consider the folders of the specified depth as the "direct containers" of files. In the
first example searching
*.jpg /x=1
should return
User3 folder only (because
User1 and
User2 folders contain *.jpg). Currently XYplorer finds
Root,
User1,
User2 and
User3.
Btw, clicking on the
Root item in the search results causes XYplorer to report
"Location currently not available". It's weird
I've added
November folder to my first post. Searching
*.jpg /x=4
should return
November and
Software folders but searching
*.jpg /x=3
should return
Software folder only.

Makes sense, but tricky!

I'll try ...

The fix is not working again

Try to rename
November to
August. Searching
*.jpg /x=1
will find
User2 by mistake.

Indeed. Interesting task. The next version should fix it for good!

I'm impressed! Everything works like a charm now
It took some time to think about the change:
"If there are no folder in relative level 5 than nothing is returned". It seems to me that this behavior is more acceptable and I couldn't find any flaws in it. Personally I use
/p=1
and
/x=1
switches only.
You should clarify the following phrase in Help:
"The depth of the returned paths can be optionally specified".
- From my point of view, "depth" has a different meaning than "level". It covers the specified level and all previous levels as well (from 1 to n). There should be a clear statement that no other levels will be returned.
- Information about the scanning depth is not available, i.e. found folders themselves may not contain the files we search but their descendants may. In fact, XYplorer performs a deeper scan than
/p
and /x
switches alone.

Great.
I will the Help as it is now. Since you are the only one using the feature it should be sufficient.

I believe it would have a lot of users if it were more descriptive in Help.
Sometimes I catch myself thinking that XYplorer is like a universe itself and there are tons of options and capabilities that will never be discovered by me. It is amazing software!
Thanks for the brilliant feature anyway. XYplorer is the best

Thanks!
If you got free time and feel like writing a short article about the usage of this feature, I will post it on the website. It's a long-standing idea to have a section of usage illustrations / testimonials / samples.
