GSpot Codec Appliance reports that it uses: Codec = FLV4/VP ;Name = Flash/On2 VP6 and a warning that it needs Flash 8+ player...I can't figure out exactly what codec status is here on my system, but as it works in some FLV players but not in XY, there's something amiss slightly.

Update: VLC shows it having VP6F codec as video...

I've avoided K-Lite packs after reading some horror stories at other forums that deal with audio/video specifically...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

I use K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.59. No problems.
That explains why you can preview the file and I can't. Ffdshow is part of that codec pack and will let WMP play various kinds of files, including flv.

No video editor who's worth anything would let that codec pack (or any other) get anywhere near their production system.

I have a player (Sorenson) that is designed specifically to play flv files; I'll just have to miss out on WMP or XY playing them.

Just to see, I installed 'ffdshow' on my system and believe I activated the needed FLV settings, but still XY and WMP won't show this video...oh well...didn't break anything either that I know of...

And your second comments match some opinions I saw at video specific forums that deal with this stuff constantly...

My Google research indicated that ffdshow was the key. Maybe it isn't. :)

Well, as convoluted as the whole codec/filter thingy seems to be, IMO, I'm still not 100% sure of just what I need where to play what! And I'm not yet convinced that even though I appeared to have installed ffdshow, did it get into the right places to interact with all the other "junk" that is similar?

Update: I spent quite some time last nite working on this, and doing research, including posting to a video forum, which led me to the following:

1) My vers of FLVSplitter.av in WINNT\System32 was not current, and I got the newer one at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=205650, and after installing that, things definitely improved! WMP will now play this file, as well as another I had that was similar.

2) My vers of Media Player Classic was also not the most current so had to update it also...seems there was various updates, but the listed vers nbr didn't change, so I didn't see it, as it's now got a variant fork.

3) Not sure if this had any effect, but I also installed "VP6 decoder" from MovieCodec.com, as someone pointed to that also.
Upd: Just to see what would happen, so removed this now with no apparent ill effects, so must not have been a cause

4) As Jeff stated, even though every other player I have now handles the file just fine,
XY now hangs with a "Loading.." and I have to kill it!

Please check your version of this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\quartz.dll
1,293,312 bytes, 29.10.2007 23:42:30, ver 6.05.2600.3243

Ok, so my quartz.dll is slightly different, but not by much (at least date wise), as mine is 6.05.1.908 from 10/27/07 at 1,222,656 bytes, but remember also that I'm on W2K, so not sure if that's reason for diff?
AFAIK, I'm current on all M$ updates, as I did check about 2 wks ago.

Plus, as all other players now have no issue, and some of them use this module as I gather it... :?

I think so, too. So it's some codec thing...

I saw some older posts on VideoHelp.com forum (where I got the assist to make it this far!) that talk about re-registering quartz.dll to sometimes solve a problem, so I tried that too...just for the heck of it...why not? No chg! :(

tnx for trying. I can only say it again: I use K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.59. No problems.

Well, I'm sorry that I'm not that adventuresome that I'll try the "K-lite pack", so are there any clues that you/XY could provide as to what is hanging it? It's likely looking for something somewhere...and I (we?) need to know what those 'some's are....

Of course, I would if I could. But I don't do anything here. I just tell Windows to play the file in my window. Nothing else.

Tried one more combination: When I asked XY to preview file, in the pop-up from "ffdshow" asking if I wanted to use it, I said no this time, and then I was able to get file loaded for AUDIO preview at least, so it didn't hang on "Loading..."...not sure what that signifies or means, but just wanted to pass it on.

Update: I then went to another file type to clear out the preview, and went back to the FLV in Raw View, switched to preview, and told "ffdshow" yes this time, and...I got working VIDEO! :? Huh? What difference did that seq make?

Update #2: Exited out of XY, restarted it, selected the problem FLV file, and told 'ffdshow' yes, and it worked just fine...weird...I'm confused!
