Woo Hoo! I'm fairly certain I had the "Cache network servers" checked before, but that was version 19.00. I now have the latest version 19.50, and checking this results in almost instantaneous access to \\DS418. Thanks for your help with this!

I had the same slow issue on first access to a share on a windows 2016 server from my win 10 x64 pro. Typing \\servername in a tab the first time would take around 8 seconds, but is instant in Win10 file explorer. After enabling the suggested setting below it is pretty instant in XYplorer:
