TOTD: List Tips Shortcut causes crash

I have re-downloaded but the error persists!

I haven't yet re-installed and tested, but my current 6.40 Install.exe vers shows as 895,479 bytes whereas the original vers shows as 895,315 bytes, so there IS a difference in the two...which one do you have?

Update: Just tried it...it STILL crashes!! So Don, your secret fix is hiding where???

Okay, it might be this: I redated the fixed EXE and I think I dated it some seconds before the first crashy one. So it might be that the install script does not overwrite the "newer" exe with the older... mea stupidness!
The solution would be: delete the old exe, then install.

Shift+A creates a full and complete list of ALL tips that can be scrolled thru...and one can click on a particular tip to exit full list mode and get it in the window by itself, but other than that, clicking has no effect...now if that doesn't work, then there could be an issue but it works fine here (once I got the correct 6.40 installed).

Don: So...you were the problem! I would agree based on my results that install bypassed because of timestamps, so in future, if you do a un-named fix, maybe make sure the timestamp is after the prior one by a few minutes?

I do think this whole area of totd has got just a tad too much development time! In its simplest form it is fine. Now I agree totally with the comment that shift A presents all you need to scroll through but jc said he can click on a particular tip to exit - not on mine. I am happy the way it is with a list and description and I click close to exit. The the A list - clicking for me does not link but I rather think this list is superflous and should be dropped altogether including quick links.

I notice also there is the check for start up both on the totd window and in the config. Surely the config one is also superfulous and could be scrapped.

I have learnt a lot from these tips but there is no requirement to go offer masses of functionality especially if it is a coding problem.

Just to be clear, not to exit as in close the TotD window, but to jump to the tip itself (exit as in "exit from the list")

Seeing how Shift+A is quite fast, I would tend to agree. But if one is looking for a specific feature/tip, then that list is probably faster to go through!

I disagree. It's the same option on two places, yes, doesn't mean one is superflous. The "real" one is on Config, the other is an extra for quicker access. Just like some options are also available on menus and/or TB ctxt menus.

that clears up what I read and understood it to mean but no amount of clicking works for me on the shift A list tip. I am not concerned over this from a user point of view but intrigued as to why it works for others but not for me! Any ideas?

I think it's kind of expected behaviour that if you select a link (the blue color implies they are) you get the real thing.
My vote for implementing it that way, 'cos with increasing size of that TOTD database it might become annoying to scroll the whole list after you spotted tip no. 134 in the index, that might solve your current problem.

Even in the Shift+A list clicking a title doesn't do anything with my XP SP2 - thus no exit from the list...

Of course it IS implemented that way. It just does not seem to work everywhere...

I agree that there is no principled reason against having identical options in different places -- but in this particular case I'm with graham.
