Yes, it would be a variant of History somewhat, I believe...but with the features of what one can do via a Catalog entry vs History entry...and one of my items was that it would take a user defined number of uses before it would be added to that "recent" group...

This would mean that while just one use would add it to History, it may take 5 uses to add it to "recent" if that was how user set it up...kinda like an auto-learning thing...and yes, user could add it manually and config it more, but this would be for things that are more transitory, such as folders one uses for a few days heavily and then are either unused or deleted, so just having it in catalog would allow some extra abilities.

This brings up an interesting side issue:
:?: Is there any easy way to move an existing catalog entry from one group to another? Ok, so you can move up/down and thus eventually get it to desired group, but if one has 6 groups and entry is in 6th and should be in 1st, then it could be a pain...
By moving it, one can retain existing colors and desc, which would have to be re-entered if one adds it new again...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

There's no other way at the time no, but some kind of "List Management" interface for Catalog has been mentioned a few times, and it might be a solution.

PS: As it grows and grows, I think the Catalog could use a hierarchical structure, having subcategories could help get stuff ordered better, trying to maximize the use of the Catalog's space.

Although for me, the ultimate best would still be to have a 2 columns Catalog! 8)

An important part of Zen is self-discipline. The Catalog has been designed as a tool for the self-disciplined. I gave it only one level of hierarchy on purpose. There are no Catalog management features on purpose. I want to lead you to the holy grail of file managament: discipline. If your catalog starts to look like the tree and grows and grows you missed the point, resp. that's your call for a little excercise in self-control: reduce it! Try to have only 7 categories, each with 7 items. And you'll see your daily file work fly like a rocket!

But is having the ability to export/import or similar to easily move an entry to another category without having to "move" it numerous times to get there really that much of a conflict with this? Or the ability to sort a group?

Even if one only had 7*7 entries, getting them in proper order could take quite a few moves...or to move an entry from 7th to 1st group...could take up to 48 "moves"...not ideal, true?

You know you can drag items to a new position? Even across categories...

Ok, I can agree here. Although my 2-columns wish isn't much for organization like a tree-like Catalog, it's more of a space thing.

As you can imagine looking at my picture above, I now have a second column just unsed, that's wasted pixels all over. If I could have 2 columns, not only would the use of space be more efficient, but the use of the Catalog too as I would be able to have at the same time more location, or locations & Applications, VF, etc 8)

 Considering that I only really drag stuff about twice a month it seems, as I'm more of a point-n-click'r or keyboard than drag, no, I didn't realize this...but for those who rely more on keyboard or menus, what about them? That's still a valid point, I think...

Is there a special reason for not having list management for catalog? I already see a lot in raw view, sad i cannot edit it. Is there a hidden way to edit it?

Focus Catalog, select whatever item you want to move, hold Ctrl and use Up/Down keys to move it around. Just like when dragging, it will go from one category to the other... ;)

I think it's because Catalog is quite more complex; it's not just some kind of MRU, as all items have Caption, Destination, Open on click option, Colors....

Oh, that and the whole Zen self-discipline thinggy ;)
