I would like to see this as an option where I would use even bolder lines since they do not cover or interfere
with anything (I guess :-)

To me - what is going on in all the folders is of prime interest - and to instantly see which family of folders I'm looking at.
Solid black or dot lines that are black would likely be my preference.

Looks is not everything. A famous architect said that "function dictates (over?) form". That said - most of his buildings had
flat leaky roofs per those in the know.

I think about it. I might reuse this "Tools | Customize Tree | Mark Favorites (Icon)" as "Tools | Customize Tree | Solid Lines" or "Strong Lines".

The rest sounds like pure perfection to me!


I do have a note to self that reads:
1.
"When an object is moved by a NON XY program - then labels, tags and comments are all lost."
Therefore do not use.
2.
Even when objects/files are moved by XY - those items are lost in paper folders.
3.
When items are moved by drag, even if recycled by XY - - folder names turn to garbage.
Sometimes folder names - other times file names also.

These three notes may or may not be applicable any more - that was in the free version.

I use a special duplicate file finder that ignores all names of files based on the contents only - using either MD5 or
CRC32 and checksum. It has worked well but anything that changes a file (size or whatever) is a problem.
Renaming files in XY has not been a problem yet. Photoshop CS6 also has rename - which can not be used for that reason.
So far XY (and M$ File explorer) work great at renaming and NOT making any changes. Love that Shift+F2 to rename!!!

2. and 3. No, I don't think this is true.

Forget about "Mark Favorites (Icon)". It's history.

I'm not going to miss Mark Favorites (Icon) but I really am not a fan of how this replacement happened, Don.

1) Anyone that had that option enabled now has solid lines instead - for them this is two changes, one removing something they want and another changing their lines without approval.

2) Anyone that assigned it a shortcut key and toggled it as needed will now be toggling line style with that shortcut. They'll likely notice the icons not appearing but the change to the line style is subtle and may go unnoticed.

3) Any script which uses the #394 CID (either to retrieve a menu caption or to toggle the option) may not be working as intended anymore.

I know there's a cost associated with changing the command ID and perhaps a bigger one in adding a new flag to the tree style. However, I feel surprising the user like this is much worse and am thus compelled to voice my displeasure.

Please, let us try to avoid these kind of disruptions in the future.

Sure, this was a total exception. I'd normally never do this. But here the constellation was just perfect for a one-time sin:

1) "Mark Favorites (Icon)" looked and felt so passé.
2) Never ever heard of, or saw, anybody using it.
3) It was an alternative way to what the still existing and much better "Mark Favorites (Bold)" does.
4) Just by chance "Mark Favorites (Icon)" was positioned right below "Show Lines", so it was the perfect place for "Solid Lines".
5) Nobody will get hurt.

I get it, but if no one complained you might begin to feel these disruptive changes go unnoticed and make more of them.

By speaking out my hope is that we continue to keep them to a minimum.

I, as expected, would like to see even bolder lines :-)
Is there anything in Configuration (yet)?

This and the use of color filters and Ctrl+B really does an unmatched clarity!

My last 'clear need' is for clearly labeled stats but I have no compelling sample to contribute at this time
other than it should be one or two lines at the bottom of the screen that would pretty much have all available
data such as:
#of files in current folder, Bytes used - same for hidden files - same for Branch View - same for # of levels of sub folders + all available for those
etc. (defined as a very shaky claim to further knowledge) (Independent of Branch View being on or off etc.)

Info, that I do NOT want to see are things such as disc size, total amount of all files and/available space etc.
At most there could be a small warning flag that the current disc is using the last 10% available. This is all
stuff that we all know by instinct - just like knowing if it is day or night.

Why do I want all that info - to verify that all the folders and files are in good order and/or if they should be reworked in some way.
To me this is as vital as the clearer tree that we have now been blessed with.
All of this is almost exactly opposite of what M$ does. They love to tell you Delete all those or these files/folders as an example.
They can count if there are 15 or 1500 folders being deleted and how much space that involves. I would feel better knowing that it is
15 files and a total of 123,000mb etc.
