OK, please try v16.10.0005. It will pass SmartScreen.

I found out how to override Windows SmartScreen and "Run Anyway," so I've installed the beta, 16.10.0004. I can't seen any difference in behavior so far between this and 16.10. I can't preview Office files or pdfs, and it still crashes.

16.10.0300 is not different from 16.10.0005 in this regard. But don't worry about the crashes. I got a plan...

I've lost track of where I am with my version updates, and wanted your advice. I'm currently using 16.10.0300, possibly a beta release, and wanted to know if I should get back on the regular general release updates? If I go with the new release, do I need to avoid having preview on when I select a pdf file?

My plan did not happen yet. Actually I did not get any new crash reports for over 4 weeks, so it's not as common an issue as I first thought. Needs further research...

Just downloaded 16.9, but unfortunately have the same problem: can't use preview with .pdf files or Office files. XYplorer has been awesome for many years, but I have to admit that the inability to use preview for these essential files makes the program just another Explorer clone (although with better features in many respects). Any chance this issue will be revisited?

And what PDF software do you use, 32-bit or 64-bit? Which Office is installed (version + bitness)? 64-bit preview handlers / iFilters can't be used. You need 32-bit ones...

64-bit across the board. Perhaps I missed a post on this issue?

1) What PDF software do you use?
2) Are you getting crashes (because you post in this thread)?
3) What happens when you attempt to preview a PDF?

I'm using Adobe X, 64-bit. Any time I attempt to preview PDF files or Word (Office) files I get a program crash with the warning "XYplorer has stopped working".

If it helps, I don't seem to get crashes with pdf files, but still see "cannot preview" with both pdf and doc. Still using MS Office 2003 and the current (updated) version of Adobe Reader. XYplorer 16.90.01.

Office 2003 -> No preview handlers -> No .doc preview
but still see "cannot preview" with both pdf
Does the preview work in Windows Explorer?
If yes, post a screenshot and the exact version number of Adobe PDF reader.

Which preview are you using:
a) Preview Pane
b) Preview Tab
c) Floating Preview
?
When exactly does the crash happen? In the moment you select the file with the mouse?
