Bot problem? First of all... the default visual confirmation in phpBB has long been broken, see here.

So, my suggestions...

 upgrade phpBB to the latest version (2.0.22 I think), to close other holes that may enable other hacks
 install Advanced Visual Confirmation. That seems to have solved the bot problems we were having at bookcrossing-italy. almost shameless plug ;)

Thanks. I decided to wait for the "next-generation phpBB 3.0" which should come out soon. Maybe they improved the antispam thing...

Looks truely horrible, but the test can easily be passed by an 8 year old I think.

What I would like in my phpBB admin configuration would be just 2 fields:
Question to be answered by applying new user: ___
Correct answer to that question: ___

Finish. Easy and working if the question is good enough.

So I logged out and then went to Register to see your question...I think you got a bit TOO obscure! I wasn't sure exactly what you meant.

I'd also suggest making the question in either bold or italic, and putting a ":" before it...

I have an idea for an alternate question that might work but would be a bit easier for valid users to determine...(I'll PM it to ya)

Took me all day to register though. :(

The first version of the "hint" was terribly vague. Good thing you made some changes. I probably saw about three versions of the hint, which meant I kept coming back.

whew...

Yes, the current question is much clearer than the original!
However, it is possible (but highly unlikely) that the answer to it may change in future, so just remember that if changes are made to related options.
That's why the suggested alternatives that I PM'd Don were either unrelated to current layout or even less likely to change...

It's more likely that I change the question from time to time. I like a good riddle...
