Formatted Preview of .REG files?

You see, being an old fashioned programmer, I'm used to seeing things in hex, so having that mode on is not unusual...but it's that it stays on when I'm on a tab that I prefer to see non-hex view, that's my problem.

Yeah I get that, but i think you might be seeing this the way you deal with all this, which isn't necessarilly the way everyone does...

I don't see any need to have 2 sets of options, as the hex option only makes sense (to me) within the Raw View tab...I'm just wanting it to be auto-off while within the Preview tab...

..and I mention 2 sets of options because others than you might not see the Raw View as an hex viewer only/mostly. For them, it can make sense to raw view from the preview tab a CSS file, and enable "Hex view" to see it in hexa. Because they are already using the XY's internal Raw Viewer, and if they had to change to the Raw View tab, that's just another step because their Raw View might not have Hex view enabled as yours do.
So if then they want to preview an HTML, they need to go back on the other tab. Now they want the source code, back on the other tab, plus now they'll have switch the Hex view off.
I am only trying to see what's best to make things work in a good/simple/intuitive way for all potential uses one could do with this feature...

Because, when I'm browsing thru a set of files in a folder using the Preview tab, having a file that is strictly text only, like CSS, show up as hex dump causes extra work to have to turn hex mode off to see it "normally" and then back on so it's ready when I use Raw view tab...as some files I need/like to see in hex, so that's where the other tab comes into action...at least as how I perceive it, ok?

Yes. Hence why I suggested 2 sets of options for the Raw View mode, one per tab. That way for you the hex mode is enabled for within Raw View Tab but disabled for within Preview Tab.
You say just force it to uncheck the Hex on preview tab, but that would mean that
- sometimes changing that option is remembered, sometimes not, according the what Tab you're on (which isn't the same, and a bit more confusing IMO, as remembered on a tab-basis)
- someone who likes/wants his Raw View to be in Hex view, doesn't matter what Tab, couldn't. Would always have to go check the Hex view option (or switch tab, either way someting extra has to be done)

I don't see how you think I want to totally remove any option, rather it's just removing it from having it in a place that is duplicated and thus causing extra work for a user, like me!

I never said you wanted to totally remove any option, but just because you feel it's duplicated/useless on the Preview tab, does not mean every other user would agree.

Besides, some could ask why the Hex view option is so special?? Why doesn't the Line numbers, Wrap, Show Info or any other option behaves like that "Hex view" option??
Why would all Raw View options be remembered from one tab to the other, all BUT the Hex view that would always be "forgotten" when on Preview tab?

I hear you, it's best for you. Maybe someone else would disagree, or feel the same but with another option, like line numbers and/or wrap. I was only trying to see how it could be made to fulfill all needs and "make sense" even to the newbie.
I might be wrong, but with your solution I feel a new user could report it as a bug. That's why I suggested 2 sets of options... because the way I see it is, it's either that or, when on Preview tab you have no options at all, only the ASCII view (Hex for binary files) with other options (Line, Wrap, etc) set to internal values. And if one wants to change them, he needs to go to Raw View Tab.
But really, if one doesn't like the internal Wrap setting, having to switch tab each time can be a pain, hence my choice for double set of options...

jacky: First let me say THANKS for all the time you've spent replying here!
I think a good discussion as we've had helps make XY a better product...and...after reading you last reply, I'm starting to agree that dual sets of options (one for Preview and one for Raw View) would be a good solution to this!

Because that could open up some other combinations, such as having word wrap in PV and not in RV, etc. so you could flip between the two quickly by tab...

And what makes hex view special? Well, it's the one option that really makes it hard to read a file when you don't need it! At least compared to word wrap!

So now we'll see what our fearless leader thinks of this, right?
Hopefully dual settings will be the result, unless he finds a better answer!
Cause for now, my best solution is a bit of a PITA, which is to right-click on file and open it in NotePad or similar, as that is easier than flipping the hex view switch on/off constantly.
