Select as You Type, Paste and Select

Yep. Marco had me convinced by sheer keystrokes/ mouseclicks.
Why would I type 3 >>> and "searchterm" and ENTER if I can get the same result faster with Ctrl M?
Marco's idea, however, might make me drop Ctrl M in favor of the new handling.

The flat icon doesn't match with the existing style. you should either have all flat or all glossy. As it stands, the icon looks completely out of place.
(Psst, I suppose VisualPhram * can build a flat iconset?)

No, folks. The old icon was ugly as hell. Totally happy with the new one. Yes, some others will need more flatness as well. Coming. I'm also thinking about adding 32x32 toolbar icons...

You can't argue taste. Also depends a lot on surrounding icons and color schemes.

Is 32x32 a good size (big enough)? This is a LOT of work and I don't want to do it again 2 years later... The next possible size would be 48x48...

@Stef123: results would still be highlighted too, if you want to remove any selection you can press Ctrl-Shift-A. In general, removing a selection from highlighted items is faster than selecting highlighted items, and more in general if you don't like the option you don't enable it.

I know you talk internal about 32 etc. But it's me who talks custom <xyicons> - so I am bothered by it. P-l-e-a-s-e add support for .png icons - this would make it so much easier to customize on the fly. No big deal either to crank up 32 to 48 or vice versa. For now, I'm fine with 32, but you never know....

I have replaced all of XY's default buttons with CTB menus anyway - well... almost, some behave erratically (like dual pane) when their associated state changes. So my main concern is less about internals (except for buttons I re-use, like :select ), but about support for external formats and sizes, provided by the user, not those that come with XY.

Don't know what this means in hard pixels, but I support Marco's point.

My next setup coming this or next year will have a retina-like screen, and I do expect XY looking as perfect than as today. Some graphic gurus around who can answer that?

Hm - imagine 4k on 24" -> ~7pix/mm. That is:
32/7 = 4,5mm
48/7 = 7mm
64/7 = 9mm
(technical math )

Imagine touch screen, and people want to press it.

Just as idea - don't know what makes sense.
(If I will take 4k somewhen, I'll take at least 40 inch...)

At 96 DPI: 24 pixels = 24 / (96 / 2.54 / 10) = 6.35 mm.

So, to get a similar size at 4k on 24" it would need to be 48x48.

Flat Select works really well but I'd still like to see these as well:
1) A Select Spotted Items command would accompany this nicely since it would make it very easy to select the items which are already spotted from a TAF query - rather than have to repeat that as a Flat Select.

2) Supporting Spots, Jumps, and Selects on browse would be a boon to those of us that rely heavily on the address bar for getting around.

1) TAF has its own match settings that are independent of how Flat Select (always "Match anywhere" and Name column) works.

2) Too overloaded (even) for my taste.
