Suddently I feel not so helpful, but it's too late now so I'm posting anyways ;)
I just tried it with Squeez (speedproject.de). It also doesn't work.
Okay okay, I think I have to look at it again... :) Which of the non-working zippers is freeware? I want to start with the cheap ones, and hope to get some insight that's good for all of them!

IZArc is freeware.

I only have Squeez installed here but I made a list of some of the most famous archive tools. Maybe I have more time later to test if XYplorer works with them.

You can re-enable the native XP zip file handling using:

Code: Select all

regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\zipfldr.dll

ZIP support

mikes16 wrote:I second the wish for Zip support.

It is SO convienient in DoPus to navigate through zip files like they are folders. I work with a lot of zip files and it is nice to not have to UNZIP them to get to their content - I can just double click, the zip opens like it is a folder, then there are all the files that are zipped. Once I am done looking at them or opening them, I can back out and the zip is there. I store a lot of files as ZIPs because it takes up less space.

With ANY other zip manager I would need to unzip, view the files, then delete the unzipped directory.

More steps. Less productivity. It is all about least amount of mouse movement and least number of clicks.
Like other (former) PowerDesk users, and users of other all-in-one tools, I really miss built in zip support. UI-wise: right-click on a zip file, provide menu item to open a new tab with the contents listed and accessible for d&d and preview. Not too fancy.... but extremely useful.

This sure looks like a bug to me. When you try the drag/drop to XYExplorer you get the error message (Error 445) and it asks it you want to copy to clipboard. When you confirm with OK it does NOT copy to clipboard

Hey, I managed to handle drops from Explorer-handled archives (zipfolder...). :D

I did not test any of the other zippers. Some of them should work now as well...

Hmm, I worked the whole morning on this... and was very happy with the results. Nobody got some good news to report?

Okay, I started with IZArc2Go... and immediately made an interesting discovery: this beast does the extracting and the copying! Whereas WinZip does only the extracting and leaves the copying to me. Okay... so I made it IZArc2Go-compatible. I wonder what comes next. Every archiver his own way?...

Beg your pardon - what's IZArc2Go? I have just IZArc (IZArc.exe V3.81) and it still doesn't work for me :(
But: it seems better than before! In prev version, on draging from IZArc to XY I immediately saw sign like "no action here" - so no chance to drop. Now, with 6.30.0054, everything *looks* fine - but then nothing is dropped! Tried it with some different .zip-files, and different drop-locations. Always the same: it looks good, but nothing is extracted...

It's the portable version of IZArc.

Next version will be better... as I expected IZArc behaved differently from IZArc2Go.
