I have thought about this and I think it has an unavoidable price, either in speed or in image quality.

Icons are almost always 1:1 - so only squares.

Also, please can you add support for PNG compressed icons (256x256 and higher) - that should be the only show stopper for high quality icons

Big request, add possibility of control of long names (Caption lines) in tiles.

Here is a new tweak (next beta -- v14.50.0305) that might become a feature in a later version:

Code: Select all

+ Tiles: Added experimental tweak to show some basic photo data with Large
      Tiles:
        TilesLargeExtraPhotoData = 1
Note that it only works for JPEG files, and only under Win8 or later.
And even there it might not work correctly on all systems... it's just
experimental. In future it will probably be replaced by something more
      sophisticated.
Here is an example for it in German Windows:

Cool, I just caught myself clicking on your thumbnail to blow it up.

Yes, cool and very nice looking feature. I'll have to wait for RAW support, though.

Do you get those data on the Meta tab for your RAW files?

Ah yes, sure! I still hadn't installed FastPictureViewer Codec Pack on my Win8.1 system. Now I see it too. And, of course, you will get the new tiles with photo data for all your RAW formats!

Hi Don,

works and looks great. Could the custom thumbnail background color be used by tiles too?

Hmm, not sure. I'm personally okay with it. Other opinions?

Large tiles now support 256x256. However; embedded PNG compressed 256x256 and 512x512 icons are still not displayed in the preview window. List view needs to share its intelligence with the preview window.

Hi Don,

thanks for experimental implementation. With #E6E8E3 it looks better overall and it visually behaves exactly like thumbnails (imho, they have to because tiles are annotated thumbs). :D

Thanks for the large tile additional information implementation in Windows 7. I hadn't tried it on my Windows 8 machine yet, but it works great on Windows 7 now. By the way, is there any way to decrease the large amount of wasted space between adjacent tile and the text (see capture)? The large tile size is set at 240.

Sure: http://www.xyplorer.com/images/whatsnew ... altime.gif

Code: Select all

+ List | Tiles Views: Now you can freely adjust the width of the textual
information shown in Tiles views. This width is now identical to the width
of the Name column in other views, so you can adjust it via:
View | Columns | Grow Name Column (Ctrl+Shift+Numpad Add)
View | Columns | Shrink Name Column (Ctrl+Shift+Numpad Subtract)
or by drag-sizing the Name column header.
