Well, maybe you find a second fool...

Okay, done. 8)

Yeah sure, I just couldnt find a "nice" caption for it, hence why I went with "File Format", but actually the very simple "Select Focused Extension" as you suggested sounds pretty good.
admin wrote:Concerning Filter: a VF by type is not possible (type is not known at the point when VF sets in). So that would have to be by extension. Caption is difficult... "Show only items of/with this extension"? What is "this"? Actually: is it such an interesting functionality???
As jc said, "Filter by Focused Extension" could work andI think this could be usefull as times yeah. I already have a couple of VF I used regulary (like Videos for avi/mpg/vob/etc) set on my Catalog, but still this can be good to quckly filter files you don't need to filter every day, etc
j_c_hallgren wrote:The current VF is nice, but a bit too complex for my needs...and involves keyboard more...so being able to bring up my Financial folder, then using mouse, be able to filter the list down to just the .CSV, so I can more easily work with those, but not for any operation that would need selection of all of them at one time.
I'm sorry, but is j_c_hallgren here saying he wants to use his MOUSE, and not his keyboard ?!!? Am I in bizarro-world or something?? :P ;)

Yes, it's likely you are, Jacky!
Ok...so maybe I should have said it a bit differently...Since I have the touchpad and not a true mouse...but whenever I can do a function with mouse gestures, even if it could be done with a few keystrokes, I'll use my touchpad! 8)
I use the keyboard now, it seems, mostly to type in posts here!
Other than that, to enter data in Excel and such...so keyboard shortcuts are not as valuable to me as ways to do it with "mouse"...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Actually, i expected more from the "Filter by Focused Extension". For example if i select .doc and .jpg and use the "view>tab>Filter by Focused Extension" it shows only the focused extension (which is what it should do normally). But i want both (SELECTED) .doc and .jpg extensions to be visible.

Ditto for "Select by Focused Type".

A toolbar button for both would be useful too. maybe you can integrate with the visual filter button we have now.

I'm with surrender on this one, especially on the button (or keyboard shortcut?) front. Currently, having that option in the third level of menus makes it slower to use than just using my eyes, hitting ^J and typing the extension in manually.

Perhaps it also needs to have "Highlight Selected Filetypes" added as well?
Used to update to the latest beta every day. Now I have children instead…

Given that only one entry in list can be in focus at any time, I don't follow why selected entries would have any connection to this! The functions strictly refer just to focus and not select...so as I see it, in order to accomplish what surrender wrote, the function would have to be renamed and recoded to use select and not focus, and then also allow for multiple extensions/file types...or what am I missing here? :?

You are right JC, thats why i put this in the paranthesis
surrender wrote:...(which is what it should do normally)...
Its not a bug or anything, its just a wish to make a similar code for selected items and not just one focused item. So you are not missing anything.

Ok...it was just the way it was written that made it a bit confusing...had you simply said that you'd prefer function to be switched to use select and then renamed to match, it would have been a bit clearer...anyway, yes... if that's possible, it shouldn't make usage more difficult, and would allow for multiple selections at one time, which would be a further enhancement.

Update:I was surprised to see that using "Filter by focused ext" adds that to VF list! I thought it was just a on-the-fly thing?
Because that could end up cluttering up my VF list and thus requiring me to do claen-up on it...having the ability/option to determine whether it's added or not would, IMHO, be a good solution.

To work with "Toggle No/Last VF" it has to be added to that list. Otherwise would be more confusing.

Your idea was awsome, man! :D

BTW, the original idea of selecting based on current selection stems from another user and came in by email! -- the XY brain trust is kicking ass!
