hmm... I think I will! What I do not like is when the Catalog is not focused, then the row's background color is the usual gray, and i really wish it could be the category's/item's background color instead!!

Or maybe, make that color on the caption only, ie. not be in a "full row select" as we're in now, but only have the back color under the item's caption

My main issue was when the Cat was in focus, that selected entry did not show enough, so if there was a way to have dark blue there only when Cat is focused would be enough and work for me...it could be prior or other color otherwise, just as AB turns blue only when it's in focus....

Ok, I don't like it either. :D So I take it completely away if Catalog is not focused.

Just tried 5.40.0025...looks good! :D

But...now...what about when one goes to different folder via the tree...and the first file is focused by default...in my case, a light green...when one tabs to list, that entry is just marked with the dotted box...which is also very hard to spot! Is there a better way to handle this situation?

And I thought there had been some discussion about tabbing into the IP, or not...but I can't spot it now...anyone remember where that was?

List Style/Highlight Focused Row. That what you meant?

I've done a quick screen capture of the three possible places where focus could be (without catalog showing) using tab key after a folder has been selected via tree...it's in the middle one that it's not as easily obvious (to me) at a quick glance where focus is...yes, there is that dotted box, but...when I click on that file, then it gets dark blue, and green background goes to underline, with background grey (my color choices), and thus is quite obvious...

So what I'm suggesting is that in case shown, that box be dark blue, but background remain fully green to show that it has not been explicitly selected yet..

hmm I'm not quite sure what you'd want to be dark blue, the dotted line? I really doubt having it in blue would make much a difference, besides the way it works now is the standard way for lists.

And I'm not sure there could be anything changed here, that would not "break" anything (like show something "almost" selected when it's not, etc). The only thing could be adding a new color, and change color of the focused row when focus in not on List, so you could for example use a lighter green or even gray, then you'd know instantly I think (according that you use Highlight Focused Row, but seems that you do, and that the focused row is indeed into view, obviously)

Sorry...I was in a hurry before, so didn't get it quite as clear as I should have...what I was suggesting was that the contents of dotted box be set to some other color, in this situation, to make finding it easier...
What color it could be is not that critical, but having it not conflict with other color choices might be an issue...

hmm... not sure it could work. I mean, the text color? would be confusing with Color Filters. the background color? would lead to think the item is selected, while it's not.

I'm not really sure there's a solution here, except maybe, as I said before, changing the focused row color...

The only color that would cause that is the defined selection color...any other would not...for example, in my case, using the light green as focus and dark blue as select, the background color of the file name box could just be set to white in this case...and if not highlighting focus line, then the box shows a bit better by itself, but some minor color, like a very pale gray, might work in both cases.

There are many controls that do not easily reveal that they have the current input focus if nothing is selected. For example in all kinds of edit boxes you have to spot that little blinking insertion cursor (aka caret).

You might call this a Windows pitfall, or even a general GUI problem (do you know any OS where this has been solved any better?).

An insular solution just for the listview would be rather confusing, I think.
