It is a quite little thing, but no it's been for a while now. And I think the best, if the color used for Other Tabs is the Boxed Branch one, would be to use it as background color, and not just on that line...
JC: Ok, just seen it.. .and I won't reply then, as it wouldn't be so useful

The one advantage, that I see, to using the tab stripe for any color marking is that one can still then have the tab background color set as desired (maybe just a plain gray), similar to tree, but still have some color coding, similar to how a highlighted folder appears...and...given that there may be some who have non-black text colors, making sure that no conflicts/conditions causing unreadable text are avoided is thus easier...
As I'd stated before, making the stripe a tad thicker would be needed, IMHO....not THAT much bigger but two pixels more shouldn't use that much screen space...I'd thought one pixel more but reconsidering, suggesting two now.
Speaking of colors, I noticed that setting a background for tree also sets that color for catalog...should this be separate setting? Or just better described? I only use white for both so doesn't really affect me, but just found it when trying some combinations...

Addendum: The Help file 'index' does not have any entries for either "Boxed" or "Highlight" as related to this feature so it also could use a tweak...
Oh yes! Thanks.

Well, either way if that bar gets bigger it can only mean the space "left" on the tab (for icon+text) gets smaller, as there's no way the tab header's will get bigger, obviously.
I'd say using the background color could be better just cause (a) Boxed Colors are background colors, and (b) makes them "bigger"/more used hence easier to spot.
Though it that top-bat gets a little bigger it might be just enough to see, it's only a visual indicator after all (that I beleive can be usefull, esp. when many tabs makes their locations not fully shown), and wouldn't mess with the tabs colors.

I'm saying to move the icon/text closer to the bottom of tab to make room for an extra pixel or two in stripe, as presently the icons touch the stripe but are futher away from bottom, so swiping some of that for stripe is my thought...

Yes. Only problem might me, since I'm guessing this Tabs control is the same one used every where else, it would mean make this change only when tabs have icons (eg Tabs) but not elsewhere (eg Config, Panel, etc)
If Don says it can be done, then sure.
Stripe Size Increase Necessary

Not sure if an increase in the tab stripe (seems to be what everbody is calling it) size is neccessary if the color of the stripe can be customised for each tab.
My thinking is that if you could select more obvious colors the tab stripe would be more visible.
I think Don deliberately uses a gold stripe (although obviously I can't speak for Don

) because it is fairly subtle and that's the effect he is looking for ?
Gold is good !

Sorry just to clarify, I'm not criticising the use of the gold stripe

to highlight the currently active tab (I think it's the perfect color).
Just saying that if it was customisable per tab, you could select a less subtle color (e.g. purple) that would make that particular tab stand out more (possibly without any change in the tab stripe size).

Combination of

and

: Found that when a particular tab becomes the active one, the icon and text moves UP so that it touches the stripe, but otherwise it's close to the bottom...so not sure why it does that but that would possibly negate my thought in the quote above.
