Based on no facts at all but solely the timing of their removal...

I had the thought that they were removed because Don could not find one he liked for "Custom Columns" and didn't enjoy wasting time searching for icons anymore. *shrugs*
Yo, both. I disliked them since long and the arrival of "Custom Columns" was the final nail to their coffin.

Sure, if you come up with a set of icons I like I will add them. But I can tell you already now: it's near impossible. I'm too picky!

I have a hard enough time finding icons for my own work. :P

I am extremely envious of those who possess the skills to create good looking icons.

If anybody comes up with a good grouping for these, I will happily implement that.

Tree and List
Sort and Rename
Refresh, Icons, History
Menus, Mouse, Safety
Controls and More
Startup & Exit
Colors
Styles
Color Filters
Tags
Custom Columns
Fonts
Templates
Find Files & Branch View
File Operations
Report

Previewed Formats
File Info Tips
Thumbnails
Dual Pane
Tabs
Undo & Action Log

With the icons no longer available as the visual cue that some preferred, this seems like an excellent opportunity to at least put the categories in alphabetical order. It is the logical thing to do and there is no compelling reason for not doing so. :eh:

Yes, could work. But is it better than grouping? Not sure...

IMHO even the XY cognoscenti are not that familiar with the "groupings" system let alone the program neophytes. Based on both reason and logic seriously belief that alphabetical is the more efficacious approach.

Looking at it I must say I agree with you. Simple and efficient.

However, argh: We have 17 languages, and a Help which mirrors the current order. I think that's the death of the idea.

Why not adding some separator?
And perhaps moving Undo&Action Log below File Operations...

Yes, not bad. But I would need small catchy terms for each group because they would have to fit into the list in bold face.

Main/Settings, Colors, File Ops, Preview, Tabs, Meta

But if we're going to put things into groups, those group headers names should not duplicate any item within than group, as that would be confusing, I think.

In addtion to having group headers and hopefully small/thin divider lines as well (if header lines are not colored/etc) , could the detail items be indented just a bit?

1. You think right, but I couldn't think of better short catchy terms.
2. Absolutely agree.

Something along that line? I alphabetically ordered things within each subsection. Also, certain things I moved around. Sure, the naming is still boring though.
