Sounds awesome! Can't wait!

It seems like having "dynamic" as part of the name would also fit...
Dynamic User Columns (DUC) ??
or
Dynamic Mult-Columns (DM) ??

Thanks everybody. I'm very fine now with Custom Columns.

So, it is deciced:

1) Extended Tags
2) Custom Columns

Well, now I think "Extra Tags" is better since it is shorter and appears even a little more correct semantically. What do you say, English men?
The default column names would be "Extra 1", "Extra 2" etc. which is also better than "Extended 1", "Extended 2"...

Isn't each tag an "extra" tag by default? Ofc I'm not a native english speaker (as you should know) by from a logical point of view "extended" makes more sense.

I need some generic captions for those columns in some contexts (the user later/elsewhere can set his own captions), and I think Extra would work better here than Extended (see shot), and "Extended Tags 1" etc would be too long and also a bit confusing (because one would automatically relate it to the Tags column but their is no special relation to that column).

If they are simply additional tags as exist now, then Extra would be ok -but- I thought they had some unique attributes, thus Extended would be better to distinguish them from Standard/Basic tags.

As to column titles, you could abbrev it to "Ext 1", and save space that way...I'm sure XY users don't always need EVERYTHING spelled out completely!

unique attributes? Yes, but I did not talk about this yet in public. What are you thinking of then?

Not yet in public? I just read
The tagging system will be extended by 5 user-definable fields/columns. The user can freely name the columns and enter file-specific information into them (just like into the Tags and the Comments columns). So you have 5 more freely definable sortable data fields for all files on your system
in your OP and that's what I got from it...there was something in there which made it seem different from existing setup so thus I conclued they were separate and unique as compared to existing...ok?

OK; but there is stuff coming that's even more unique than that...

How about a combo of those: eXYtag for extended XY tag?

I think it would sound more like 'sexy' without the 's' but I agree it has a good sound and is unique name (good for marketing!), plus short as well...same syllable count as "extra tag" and 1 less than "extended".

True, it still has the 'tag' in it and that may have some undesired linkages to "tags" in general but I don't see that as issue.
