That's red hot. Ctrl page up & down are pretty sweet, too
Note to self. Look at keyboard cheatsheet more often

I want it that way. Well, as long as you provide two options:
(1) Cycle tabs in recently used order.
(2) Cycle tabs in tab bar order.

In (1) Ctrl+tab will work like how alt+tab works for switching tasks in windows and in (2) Ctrl+tab will work like it does now.
I'm right with you here.
This lack of MRU for tabs is the only annoyance in XYplorer as far as I'm concerned.

Hi and Welcome to XY forum,

Yes, i agree with that. I am so much used to MRU from browser use myself. But as far as I know this feature will be coming soon. As of now, the admin (aka Don) is on a short break for 10 days. When he is back he will address all the issues users have. So stay put and hang around enjoying other rich features of XY. :D

BTW: XYWiki is a great source of information for starters.

Thank you.
I'm anxious to see it implemented!

The main reason why did not implement it earlier is the GUI. I'm not sure what to make with that back/fore toolbar buttons. Tabwise or global?

Tabwise, definitely. (Although there could be a trick to Ctrl+click to have them to work globally...)

And the buttons ctx menu? And the hotlist? All tabwise? Where can I see and use my global history then?

Well, as I said you could hold Ctrl to get them to work globaly instead. (Not to mention you could add items on the ctxt menu, such as "Global History..." and "Global Hotlist...")

What you could also do, and I believe I've also seen on other app, is to duplicate those buttons : the standard (tabwise) ones, and their global duplicates. For example, the same buttons would be available, but say in blue instead of green, to indicate that they are working on global history, not tabwise. (And for them, holding Ctrl would mean working tabwise.)
So every user can choose how its buttons work, and simply by holding one key has access to the other way.

This sounds like a very exciting solution to me. Having it this way won't affect global history users.

So...are you thus asking for yet more buttons on toolbar? Just wondering...cause as it is, my TB is so full that Addr Bar is almost down to nothing...not that I use AB much, but I do use the "[TB & AB][Tabs]" setup as best choice for me...

Now, IF there was ever a solution to getting AB next to Menubar so that gray space could be used for something worthwhile, this would help...the other choice/solution, as requested before by others, is a dual line TB, which takes a fair amount of 'real estate' but would allow us to have about as many TB icons as one could want.

Well, I'm not forcing you to put all available buttons on your TB! ;) And I would assume that you would be either more for a global or a tabwise way to go, and just use the buttons more appropriate to your liking. (And having the hold Ctrl trick to use the other way anytime.)

I might be wrong, but I think most people would either want their prev/next buttons to work tabwise or globally, but not to use both at the same time depending on their mood. I would imagine one of the two flavors would be prefered, and the other one used much less, and for which case holding Ctrl (or using a new item on ctxt menu) would be enough.

Let the user define this in her preferences eg. hotlist global, buttons tabwise, etc.

In my opinion, tab MRU is more important than the former features. The way I use XYplorer, a tab is basically a thread of activity, like these virtual desktop programs; I want to be able to switch from one to the other easily, and I don't want to use the same tab for, say, "system32/drivers" tampering and "my Music" editing. Doing so, I can stop all what I was doing at the end of the day, and find all my previous "tasks" when I log on the next morning, without having to check what's in the history or whatever.

If some other users do not agree, let them not use Ctrl-Tab (which is not *very* useful as it is anyway) and everybody's happy
