Nighted wrote:Yes, I also misunderstood how you were applying the icons.
I personally assign icons to a specific folder name pattern. I did not realize you could assign an icon to a specific tab this way.
The example Borut shows looks correct.
Assigning the folder name is still working fine. The folder's icon will be shown up on the Tab as described in the manual.
Assigning an icon file (.ico) to a tab used to be working before v12.
Borut's suggestion still won't work.

Sorry armsys, I am now out of ideas. Hopefully Don will have one.
@Don
Just for the sake of it, note that armsys is located in Hong Kong. Locale problems maybe?

Sorry bud, tested here and it works as expected (13.10.0118 Beta).

Nighted, Thanks for your test.
It looks like now I'm the only person having the issue.
The generic icon shown in the tab indicates XY locates the icon but doesn't display it.

Navigate to <xyicons>\xy.ico and screenshot the preview pane showing the icon's content.

The screenshot for the <xyicons>, which contains only xy.ico.

Do you have a specific icon set for the .ICO extension in portable file icons?
That would explain it.

No, it's empty.

Thanks for your help.
Obviously, your screenshot shows your .ico does work.
(Fixed) Custom Tab Icon Issue

Dear Nighted, TheQuerty, Borut, Eil, and Don,
I'm pleased to report my Custom Tab Icon issue is fixed by a stroke of luck.
I went thru each .ico entry in the Windows Registry and delete all keys & values I deemed nonessential one by one.
Then, suddenly the Custom Tab Icon (CTI), say, "MyXY|c:\ArmSys\Icon\xy.ico", behaves as expected just like good old days.
This is another don't-ask-me scenario. I just don't know why and how it works. But as always I love experimenting new ideas.
But I notice now the default handler is
Windows Photo Views
, not
Paint
. That seems to make a huge difference.
Perhaps Don may log the solution above in the user manual to help out other XY users just in case.
Thank you for affirming that the issue is caused by me, not XY.

Windows always has a card in a pocket to say "hey, did you really think you know everything around?!"

good to hear your problem is solved.
