All suggested tools above exhibit a singular fault: slow.
All text-based tools are slow to handle a significant size of info, say, articles from New York Times for the last 10 years.
After years' search, I conclude the only viable solutions must be binary-based with built-in SQL.
Just my 0.002 cents. :cup:

hello all!

while doing some search, i found zim desktop wiki - http://zim-wiki.org/,

"All data is stored in plain text files with wiki formatting." -quote from website

i think this is a contender because we can fully use xyplorer capabilities with it.

ciao!

So far, I'm quite satisfied with the speed and usability. Now, my PC is flatten haha

Whao, I love the format of Zim

Code: Select all

**Strong**
//Emphasis//
__Mark__
~~Strike~~
Great idea. I'm thinking of a more universally accepted formatting such as <b>Bold</b>

Ok, so I will not reinvent the wheel further, my goal is personal wiki

The only concern is how XY's power can assist in managing collection of wiki files.

hello binocular222,

you can carry zim with you as well with a portable version

link here
http://www.glump.net/software/zim-windows

with zim you can just use xyplorer normally because all data is stored in plain text files.

merci!

Been using this for years, basically plain text presented in Wiki-Markdown format with many smart features:

Online wise I've resorted to trello as it really is a quick way to keep consolidated notes. It allows export of the data and has an accessible API, so I imagine some genius could come up with a desktop sync and text indexing search this way.... but I still enjoy the simplicity of trello (even if the search/preview needs improvement).

I'm curious, why do you focus on a desktop/xyplorer based option, when knowledge management is really a different focus than file management. I may have missed something... I have to speed read with the limited time I have today.

If time is so limited why are you reading and replying to threads that haven't been touched in 6 months or worse 6 years!?

This type of behavior gives the appearance that you're actually a spammer and are planning to modify these comments with crap in the future.
