I would never associate a Ganja-like image with a trash-can.

Actually "ganja" never entered my mind. I was simply thinking "green" as is grass. I do "recycle" everything I can (i.e., being green) and it certainly looks better than a trashcan.

Tools icon looks like a duck in a suit. But if it gets the stuff done...

I'm having some trouble understanding the un-/selected patterns. Could you please provide a full example.

Can (un)selected folder state icons only be set for the whole system? From you example:
*\>Desktop\icons\Win7 Icons\Icon_6.ico
**\>Desktop\icons\Win7 Icons\Icon_5.ico

Then (how) is it possible to do this less generally for drives, specific folders...? e.g.
[CD]:\*\ /d>Icon_Local_Closed.ico
[CD]:\**\ /d>Icon_Local_Opened.ico
[F-J]:\*\ /d>Icon_Flash_Closed.ico
[F-J]:\**\ /d>Icon_Flash_Opened.ico

Here (WinXPSP3), only the upper "unselected-closed" \*\ definitions are used.

i.e. Should we favor one over the other for drives (knowing they don't use the icon anyway)? e.g.

vs
[CD]:\ /rd>Folder.ico

OH.

Uhm, the normal/open distinction is ONLY made for the generic folder icon (patterns *\ versus **\). Sorry, you can choose just one color and use it for the generic icon.

Yes, this is only supported for the general folder icon.

About 1. (normal/open distinction) Oh ok, too bad, I thought it was what you were after... But not a big deal.

Since recently (0214?) the PFI exclusion entries like this one

<xyicons>\*

apparently have the standard folder icon showed left of the entry. I believe this was blank before. Blank seems to be a more logical choice to me.

EDIT: Ahh, when > is appended then it is blank. So, forget it.
