Definitely a nice feature. Now if I could just find a nice one for all those System Volume Information folders.
Don't shoot them, but there are icons in my tree.jpg

I would never associate a Ganja-like image with a trash-can. :naughty:

Actually "ganja" never entered my mind. I was simply thinking "green" as is grass. I do "recycle" everything I can (i.e., being green) and it certainly looks better than a trashcan. :)

Tools icon looks like a duck in a suit. But if it gets the stuff done...

Nice, but it's only the selected icon which is only used for the one selected folder in the tree. Much more useful would be the normal icon.
Well, turns out I was wrong here. This IS the normal icon under Vista and Co. So these are just perfect for my screenshots, thanks!

Filehero wrote:... My general take on this
Pattern based stuff is surely for the advanced only, because it essentially requires deeper commitment to some in-depth learning.

But I guess, most people ("laymen") will only like to change icons for
- file types/extensions
- explicit/dedicated folders
- complete drives

And these can be technically mapped to
- pick icon (aka inputfile, common action)
- pick path (aka inputfolder, for drives and folders)
- pick or add list entry (for file types/extensions)

Presented by a sort of simple wizzard this might could be realized with a manageable effort on top?
Of course, I would await the first user feedback upon official release.
Yes, nice and possible (e.g. via optional context menu commands "Define custom icon for this file type" etc.). And agreed, let's first get some feedback from the street.

This IS the normal icon under Vista and Co...
I've just figured that out myself, but unfortunately not before I managed to close them

My pleasure 8)

They are actually brand new, made of icons from imageres.dll in Vista. The corresponding selected icons are here.

So now we have this old effect back....
I'm having some trouble understanding the un-/selected patterns. Could you please provide a full example.

e.q.
C:\Users\Regmos\Documents\Budget.....????? Red_selected.ico (selected)
C:\Users\Regmos\Documents\Budget.....????? Red_closed.ico (unselected)

Hi'
Nice to see lotsa folder icons coming from everywhere! :)

1.
Regmos wrote:I'm having some trouble understanding the un-/selected patterns.
I'm unsure too...
Can (un)selected folder state icons only be set for the whole system? From you example:
*\>Desktop\icons\Win7 Icons\Icon_6.ico
**\>Desktop\icons\Win7 Icons\Icon_5.ico

Then (how) is it possible to do this less generally for drives, specific folders...? e.g.
[CD]:\*\ /d>Icon_Local_Closed.ico
[CD]:\**\ /d>Icon_Local_Opened.ico
[F-J]:\*\ /d>Icon_Flash_Closed.ico
[F-J]:\**\ /d>Icon_Flash_Opened.ico

Here (WinXPSP3), only the upper "unselected-closed" \*\ definitions are used.

---------

2.
Is there a speed difference between \*\ and /r ?
i.e. Should we favor one over the other for drives (knowing they don't use the icon anyway)? e.g.
[CD]:\*\ /d>Folder.ico
vs
[CD]:\ /rd>Folder.ico

OH.

Uhm, the normal/open distinction is ONLY made for the generic folder icon (patterns *\ versus **\). Sorry, you can choose just one color and use it for the generic icon.

1.
Yes, this is only supported for the general folder icon.

2.
No speed difference.

Thanks for the quick replies!
About 1. (normal/open distinction) Oh ok, too bad, I thought it was what you were after... But not a big deal. :)

Since recently (0214?) the PFI exclusion entries like this one

<xyicons>\*

apparently have the standard folder icon showed left of the entry. I believe this was blank before. Blank seems to be a more logical choice to me.

EDIT: Ahh, when > is appended then it is blank. So, forget it.
